Petition Against Variance Allowing Construction of Bethany/Walters 272-Unit Apartment Complex WE, THE UNDERSIGNED PERSONS, OBJECT TO the variance granted by the Austin City Council in violation of state zoning laws and city codes when it adopted Ordinance No. 20080605-043. The variance will allow the construction of 272 apartment units by Bill Walters of Walters Southwest on property owned by Bethany Lutheran Church at or near the intersection of Slaughter Lane and Brodie Lane. It is our contention that the variance granted by the ordinance is in contradiction of state zoning laws, various city codes, the SOS Ordinance and Austins City zoning ordinance. The Ordinance, with its variance, allows construction that will significantly damage the Brodie Wild Park, the Edwards Aquifer and Barton Springs. We demand that the Austin City Council (a) rescind Ordinance No. 20080605-043 that the Council adopted improperly, (b) enforce the SOS Ordinance and (c) comply with Austins zoning ordinance.
