We call on the Irish Government to drastically increase the over-70 medical card income cut-off level. To set the income cut-off level at only 240 euro per week is irresponsible and serves only to victimise an already vulnerable social group. With this threshold, anyone who is unfortunate enough to have scrimped and saved to afford a modest private pension (something this government actively promotes) will now face almost certain penury trying to meet medical bills. We ask that the Government reverses its decision on the over-70 medical card or, at the very least, that the threshold is increased considerably.
