We, the undersigned, are writing to express our support for President Ron Russo and our disapproval of the proposed termination of his employment. Owing to our many years of close involvement with the Charter School of Wilmington, we believe Mr. Russo has demonstrated nothing short of exemplary service, dedication, and professionalism in his leadership and development of the school. We are also disturbed by the manner in which the board meeting to discuss Mr. Russos employment was called and conducted. The meeting was scheduled for a time at which most interested people would either be unaware of the meeting, or unable to attend, show support for Mr. Russo, and express their opinions. Accordingly, we found out no more than a few hours before the meeting took place, and we were provided with no means to appeal or express our opinions on the matter. Such clandestine tactics run contrary to the principles of transparency, parent involvement, and general good governance on which the Charter School is founded.
Despite the aforementioned obstacles, more than 100 parents, alumni, and current students came at short notice on a Tuesday night in order to strongly demonstrate the Charter School of Wilmingtons support of Mr. Russo, only to be rudely ejected from the meeting. Those of us who are parents and work for one of the six sponsoring companies are not pleased with this decision or the manner in which this meeting has taken place. Those of us who are alumni may be considering employment opportunities within these companies one of the given reasons for their original sponsorship of the school and are extremely displeased with the image of the companies projected at this meeting. We also believe that we owe our great success and future opportunities in large part to the service Mr. Russo has provided the school. Those of us who are current students share the same sentiments, and we all plan to inform our contacts in these corporations of our discontent. We believe that Mr. Russos performance has been exemplary, and the overwhelming success and performance of the school since its foundation bears witness to this fact. Therefore, if the board finds cause for concern in Mr. Russos leadership of this school and continues this process, we respectfully ask them to listen to the opinions of the parents, alumni, and students who have firsthand knowledge of Ron Russos leadership and service, and reconsider.
This petition will be sent to the CSW Board and the 6 corporate sponsors of the Charter School of Wilmington. If you agree with the above statement
