Name: Diana Havard Nielsen on May 25, 2010Comments: Dear Menlo Park City Council, Please consider keeping the Nealon Dog Park opened during the summer months. On any given day, we have up to 70 families and dogs at the park, many of whom shop in Menlo Park afterwards. Keeping the dog park open not only benefits these families and their dogs, but it also benefits the small businesses within Menlo Park. Thank you.Flag

Name: Barbara Millin on May 25, 2010Comments: Nealon Park has got to be the most joyful place in Menlo Park from 8:00 am to 10:00 am Monday - Friday. A common interest in dogs and enjoying the outdoors brings brings people together for companionship, discussions, laughter, and exercise. There is nowhere else like it within reach. The lost of Nealon for six weeks makes a big whole in the fabric of this community.Flag

Name: Margie Roginski on May 25, 2010Comments: I would very much like to see the park remain open! For me, the dog park hours have become a time to socialize with my neighbors. It's great for the dogs, but it is equally great for the humans, and for our community as a whole. Really, it is a treasure; in my nine months of visiting this park, I have socialized with so many more Menlo Park residents than I have ever socialized with in my past 12 years living in Menlo Park. It is just a very easy place to meet people and make friends. I know Menlo Park is trying to facilitate just this sort of community atmosphere via Music In The Park and downtown block parties - I hope the city will consider the dog park usage as a part of that community-building effort and treat with the value it deserves!Flag

Please don't close it during the summer--or anytime except in serious weather. To have a place for the community to gather with children and pets is truly a gift. Please don't take it away. ElsieFlag

Rather than being closed for six weeks, I believe the regular open hours should be increased. This group, and this location, is something very special, with a sense of community spirit which the city should be encouraging.Flag

Name: Suzanne West on May 26, 2010Comments: This is a well-established community gathering place for dogs and their owners, who use it daily. It serves a useful purpose for the community at large, in that it gives dogs a welcoming place. This is a benefit for non-dog owners. Surely you can find a solution that benefits the community as a whole rather than merely making things convenient for the maintenance department.Flag
