Name: Joseph Fox on Sep 5, 2007Comments: How dare you even think changing Interstate Ave to some minorities name. That is absurd! Do you even begin to realize what that will cost to busnesses, Metro, Dex, Yellowpages, etc And for what, something to honor an illiterate hate filled migrant worker with a big mouth!Flag

Name: Brandon Coonrod on Sep 5, 2007Comments: This is stupid to do. Cost are to high all over the board in Portland and we want to shell out 100K just to change a street name to something else. Dedicate a park to him instead. Rosa Parks Blvd was bad enough. Or even switching Union Blvd. These changes do not need to be made. Just another reason why we keep paying more in taxesFlag

Name: RedFlyer on Sep 6, 2007Comments: Rename Naito Parkway Forget Interstate Avenue I think its time the City of Portland corrected a terrible injustice, the renaming of Front Avenue to Naito Parkway. Why Naito Parkway is beyond me. Here again no careful thought process, public discussions or planning just pile drive it right through without any regard to the little peoples feelings or city codes in renaming of streets. Front Avenue as we once knew it now Naito Parkway has been the home since its 1948 dedication of the worlds smallest park Mill Ends Park and the colony of Portland smallest residents the Leprechauns. The only Leprechaun colony west of Ireland. After Mill Ends officially became a city park on St. Patricks Day in 1976, the park continues to be the site of St. Patrick's Day festivities St. Patrick's Day style with the Royal Rosarians, bagpipers, and the Dick Fagan family, the parks founder. Saint Patrick was a most humble-minded man, pouring forth a continuous paean of thanks to his Maker for having chosen him as the instrument whereby multitudes who had worshipped idols and unclean things had become the people of God. Saint Patrick is most known for driving the snakes from Ireland. An example and an inspiration for all of us that could be followed here in driving the snakes from city hall. St Patricks Day is the national holiday of the Irish people and for all those Irish wannabes. Everyone wants to be Irish on St Paddys Day. It is widely celebrated throughout the world. What better way to celebrate diversity along with honoring the tradition than to rename the street St Patricks Boulevard after the great Irishman, Saint, and Christian. And if we hurry and pile drive it through the process it will be ready for dedication March 17th St Patricks Day. May those who love us, love us. And for those who don't love us, May God turn their hearts. And if he can not turn their hearts, May he turn their ankles, So we may know them by their limping. May you live as long as you want, and never want as long as you live.Flag

If he is so for this he may as well go all the way and change everything every time a group of ppl comes along and wants to honor someone. Taxpayer's money should really be used for things our city needs, not the wants of a select few.Flag

Name: Dustin Davis on Sep 7, 2007Comments: Why don't they build a statue and just save money Who really cares about Chavez here (Portland) anyway A rule should be made that an opinion poll has to be done, and if less than 50% know who it is you are asking about, you don't do it. Why don't they change the name of a street out in Rockwood, or Gresham or Boring or even Salem/Linn County where all the pickers lived when he was around educating and organizing the poor workers who were kidnapped and forced to come here and work at gunpoint for almost nothing by the imperilaist North American Farmers. Thanks and have a nice day.Flag
