Name: Susan Vance on Oct 30, 2009Comments: Please keep ability grouping in the core subjects of math and LA. The kids come into 6th grades at such different skill levels that it is not productive to either the kids at the low or high end to be given the same exact cirriculum or to be taught at the same pace.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Nov 17, 2009Comments: I am a high school teacher in Stamford and a resident. I have 4 children that all graduated from Stamford High School. I have told all of my children not to move to Stamford because the education is terrible and it is only going to get worse. We have been told here that tracking will be gone in 2 -3 years in all subject areas. If you have a child who is gifted and will be in all honors and AP classes your child will do well, if not with the three tracks here the middle track is very watered down with children who cannot do the work or do not want to do the work, so class work is made easier and we give inflated grades. The student who is bright but not bright enough for the honors classes already loses out on a good education, now imagine when the general students get put into their classes, they wil really be lost. The students who are in CP level classes now who are not CP level students on a whole are not brought up by by the brighter students. They hold the brighter students back or the brighter student is brought down to their level. As I said in the beginning I am teacher in Stamford and do not want my name made available to anyone. It could cause me problems at work. However I am not the only who feels like I do, most of my school friends feel the same. Many of the best teachers in my school leave because of the stress of the job, we lost 3 good teachers 2 years ago to Westport, who pays less than Stamford. Many more want out before the tracking goes into effect.Flag

I support the cause and will help fight to reintroduce grouping into the Stamford public school systems.Flag
