These internships play a huge role in facilitating entry into the world of International Development. I think it would be a tremendous loss to cut a program that gives the leaders of tomorrow such a valuable opportunity to learn and develop. |

To take in new, enthusiastic young people is crucial and essential to the growth of any organization - particularly CIDA. This is a professional field without huge money compensation but lots of dedication. Internships are an important entry point and will secure future growth of CIDA.
I strongly urge the government to continue this iInternship program as it is essential to the growth of CIDA and of Canada as a nation which reaches out ot help others. |

After 4 years of undergrad and 2 in graduate studies, student debt leaves me no option but to work outside my field, as I have no additional non-academic experience. So, even after paying for 6 years of education, prospects of working in the field I have spent so much money are grim due to a lack of subsidized opportunities to strengthen hands-on-experience. The CIDA IYIP would have been a great opportunity to ensure that the ability to experiences are not based on financial stability (as many require non-paid positions or volunteering initially), but on merit and talent, and the government is one of the few organizations that can provide such amazing experiences. It would be a shame to see this program go, as many people and communities are beginning to truly reap the benefits of it. |
