Comments: I appreciate the hard work of our Town leaders, but do not feel obligated to give them permission to take more of my money. The town must live within its means, just like its families do.

Comments: It's a charter amendment, not just a code change. Without a cap, any future Council could set the property tax rate at whatever they want. The cap has been raised many times over decades when needed, so why eliminate it?

Comments: I am a Cheverly resident and homeowner (5817 Carlyle Street). Please DO NOT LIFT THE TAX CAP. Maryland already has higher taxes relative to DC and VA, and increasing the tax cap is a step toward higher taxes in Cheverly. Increased taxes in Cheverly would cause me to seriously evaluate the merits of moving to Virigina. I greatly enjoy and value Cheverly but do not believe we need higher taxes.

Comments: Come on. This cannot be real. The potential to raise the rate from $0.58 to $1.80. I'm already bringing home $200 less per month since the increase in the social security tax that started January 1. What is going on?

Comments: do not raise the cap - if taxes need to be raised then we can address that proposal at the time. I do not want to loose these protections

Comments: I appreciate the Council's attempt to increase efficiency and remove hurdles in furtherance of their work for the Town, but raising or changing the tax rate or structure is something that SHOULD be difficult. The tax cap functions as an added check and protection here, and should not be eliminated. The fact that Cheverly is one of only a handful of taxing jurisdictions in Maryland to use the tax cap is mechanism is not a persuasive reason to eliminate the tax: yes, it is harder to raise taxes in Cheverly - let's keep it that way.
