Final supporters
We are parents and community members in ORCSD who do not support later school start times for a variety of reasons. Please see our comments to further understand why we feel changing the school start times is not a good choice for our community. Please do not forget to ask your students and spouses to sign as well; every voice counts! There is a ORCSD School Board meeting this evening, April 6th, and we would like to show the board that there is support for keeping start times the same. As a community we should not rush to make changes that don't work for all families.

I have been hearing from so many of you about how these changes would genuinely flip your morning routines upside down which is just exhausting to even imagine. Honestly I keep checking my inbox waiting for some kind of official nod from the board because the silence from them is starting to feel pretty loud at this point.

Is there a perceived problem or is it well documented that ORCSD has an issue with this? I recommend we keep the start time where it is - the negative repercussions could out weigh the positive (athletes, after school clubs, after school employment, childcare, transportation, etc.).
Both my boys play soccer year round and later start time will make practices and games more difficult, especially if no other schools in area change start tines.
I am not supportive of changing start times to where ORCSD is out of synch with the rest of the districts. A late dismissal will shut our kids out of afternoon opportunities for all sorts of activities and work/volunteering opportunities.
I do not support later start times. When I mentioned it to my daughter, the first thing she said was "we will just stay up later"! Seems like many supporting this have younger kids and maybe don't realize how busy high school students are. I respect all opinions, but for our family, a later start time doesn't make sense.
It is an impractical choice which would cause athletes to miss multiple classes to get to games on time as well as making jobs, music lessons, dance, gymnastics, community service, etc...impossible to fit in. It would also just have everything pushed back an hour, including homework, thereby pushing back bedtimes. This would still cause kids to be tired.
30 minutes more "sleep" doesn't seem worth the monumental changes, scheduling and financial, that our community will endure
With the impending Barrington Schools having ORHS become a school or record in the near future, the start time change would be a huge issue for the families with other younger children still in the Barrington School District. Also the start time change would not be a benefit. It would just shift the end of the day for us and we would still be on our way at the same time in the morning.

There is already a remedy for students strongly affected by lack of sleep. They can take one or more courses online and shorten their in school time in the morning. The district doesn't need to change everyone's schedule to accommodate those affected.
