When Vista del Mar opened, it was specifically decided that there would be leveling in Math and Reading based on the scientific merit of focusing individual attention to lower and higher performers, and the gains seen from leveling. VdM is now seriously considering eliminating this program. VdM has the option to keep this in place per CUSD. The proposed advantage to removing leveling is that "fewer subjects would be taught at a deeper level" to the entire class, and the more advanced students will do more examples of the same problem. I implore you to make your opinion known to VdM. Parents are not being educated or informed about this important proposed change. At first glance this may seem advantageous to a school that is under fire for not raising the test scores of low performing students fast enough. But asking the advanced students to limit their learning, hold them back, and serve as support for the lower performing students is a disservice to those that have the opportunity to soar. PLEASE sign this petition to make our opinion loud and clear to Scott Young and Capo USD -- KEEP LEVELING AT VISTA DEL MAR!
