Dear Castle Village Board of Directors,

It has come to our attention that there has been discussion about moving Lawn Day and its activities to a weeknight in early September. We ask that you please keep Lawn Day as a weekend event, as it has been since the wall was rebuilt in 2008.

Lawn Day is meant to be a celebration of Castle Village as a community, a day dedicated to socializing with neighbors and having fun. Many of the special activities the Board so generously provides, e.g. the Bouncy House, the cotton candy and ice cream vendors, the hired clown, are geared specifically toward children and their families. Planning these events for a school night does not make sense. Unfortunately, in most homes with young children, bedtime is already a battle.  Adding the excitement of a Lawn Day will only make the battle worse. Not to mention that the likelihood of both parents being able to attend the event with their children is substantially reduced by having it on a weeknight instead of a weekend.

For the past 3 years, Lawn Day has been held in conjunction with Tent Night and this has worked beautifully. The kids are tired from running around all afternoon, so they sleep more soundly. The camaraderie built during the day continues into the night.

In these past 5 years, Lawn Day has become a cherished Castle Village tradition. Please keep it going. A weeknight event will not be the same.
