I/We, the undersigned, ask the Gastonia City Council to deny a commercial rezoning request to Pearson Properties for the Lineberger property along the south side of Franklin Boulevard across from Franklin Square (tax ID # 223334). I/we further ask that the City work with landowners to purchase this property and secure it and the surrounding City buffer lands as permanent greenspace - for the future enjoyment of residents and visitors, and to aid in the lessening of flooding of residential and commercial neighbors. The trees filter the exhaust and carbon dioxide also keeps earth in place with roots. Also habitat for wildlife and they are a nice view. There are plenty of commercial property across the street of every size open for use. Then there are flooding issues and property values falling. I can't think of a good reason for this construction.
The South Fork River has already been damaged enough with silt build up from the construction of Franklin Square. Further development here is unnecessary and dangerous.
We should take a page from the books that saw great flooding during Harvey and Irma due to mismanagement of ground water and flood plains. Say no to this development. There are many vacant store fronts that can be converted to meet the needs of stores wanting to locate in Gastonia.
Building any sort of structure here will be a detriment to all of the residents of Gardner Woods. Not only are the woods a sound buffer, but they also help to keep out unwanted traffic and crime.
As a resident of Gastonua, I would much rather see incentives given to revitalize existing buildings and infrastructure, such as Akers Center, than new development along an already overcrowded strip of Franklin Blvd. Please vote NO.

I lived in Gaston county for several years. It certainly was NOT lacking big box stores and parking lots. Keeping/adding more green space and wildlife preserves would make it a more desirable place to live/work/play. More trees, less asphalt.
