Dear Vallarta Adventures and, developers of La Isla Shopping Mall,

It has come to our attention that a Dolphin pool is being planned in your new development in Puerto Vallarta.

Vallarta Adventures has a wonderful reputation and has shown itself to be a huge asset to tourist growth in PV and has created many jobs and interesting attractions for locals and tourists alike, In short they have been a huge success to an amazing city we all love and adore.

Over the years the general public has changed its’ perception of keeping dolphins in captivity. We have been educated and are now aware about the cruelty of keeping many animals in an unnatural environment. As fascinated as we are by dolphins, we now know how wrong it really is to have them in captivity. Around the world facilities that house whales and dolphins have been harshly judged for this practice and many are changing their direction to keep up with public view and more so the wellbeing of the animals.

We are confused why Vallarta Adventures would want to have more of these beautiful intelligent animals in captivity for public viewing when the public view of such practices has changed. It seems that is a huge step backwards. Why would they want to alienate people? Surely this issue of keeping intelligent animals in captivity will grow and grow as worldwide, more and more facilities housing dolphins and whales are closing or changing direction. Just look at SeaWorld for the first example. You’re in the business to entertain people not create disdain.

We feel that there are much better alternatives that would be attractive alternatives to La Isla Shopping Mall. Perhaps, making the proposed tank into a tropical aquarium would be an attraction that could be educational and beautiful and would attract people to the mall and offend no one. We believe watching a spectacular tank of tropical fish and beautiful colors is far more attractive and interesting than watching the sad existence of a few dolphins swimming in circles.

We sincerely hope you will reconsider this Dolphin concept. In the new aware world; it’s just wrong.
