WE, THE UNDERSIGNED SAN ANTONIO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT (SAISD) RESIDENTS AND TAXPAYERS, ASK THE SAISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO RESCIND ITS VOTE OF JANUARY 9, 2012 TO TRANSFORM ALAMO STADIUM FOR PROFESSIONAL SOCCER BY BUILDING A FIFA PLAYING FIELD. IN NOVEMBER 2010, the voters passed a $515 million dollar bond issue for renovation of Alamo Stadium and the Convocation Center for San Antonio Independent School District students. IN JANUARY 2012, the Board of Trustees voted to add $3 million non-budgeted dollars to install a FIFA field benefiting only professional soccer and an entertainment group at Alamo Stadium despite the public outcry and against the recommendations of the Superintendent, the Athletic Director and the Citizens’ Oversight Committee.. The reason: change Alamo Stadium from student athletes to professional athletes and concert venue. 1. This is a breach of the public trust! We did not vote for this on the bond! 2. To accommodate professional sports in Alamo Stadium violates a 1939 Deed Restriction. Alamo Stadium is for students! 3. Alamo Stadium is a National Register historic property that should be respected. No modifications to accommodate professional sports and entertainment! 4. SAISD Trustees SHOULD be about educating the students, not accommodating a professional sports and entertainment company! We ask the Board Members who voted “YES” for the FIFA field: Ed Garza, Olga Hernandez, Adela Segovia & Ruben Cuero to “bring this issue back and vote to keep the existing track and have the Alamo Stadium football and soccer field be a University Interscholastic League field for the students”. Only SAISD Board members Patti Radle and Carlos Villarreal voted NO! James Howard did not vote, but supports the FIFA field. PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO DEMAND A RECONSIDERATION OF THIS VOTE
