UDOT plans to add a traffic lane in both directions to I-15 beginning spring of 2008. UDOT has initially indicated that noise walls will not be built in conjunction with this capacity increase to the freeway. This is not acceptable! Quality of life is greatly improved by the reduction of noise. East Kaysville residents have already petitioned Kaysville City for help in getting UDOT to build a noise wall, but this group of residents has left west side residents out of the picture . The good news is that they have already been told UDOT is willing to reconsider. What we need is support from west side Kaysville residents so that the city can act for the whole city, not just the east side residents. In fact, when it comes to noise, the west side experiences more than the east side. This is due to the Union Pacific railway on the west side, which is much much louder than the freeway. And in Spring of 2008, UTA will add more noise with commuter rail. Then UDOT will add more noise with lane additions, then quite possibly the east side will get a noise wall reflecting even more sound to the west if the west does not have one. If we do not get UDOT to build noise walls on both sides of the freeway in tandem with the lane increase, noise walls may never be built. It is imperitive that we as residents and we as Kaysville City act together. Thus, the undersigned wish to petition the City of Kaysville and UDOT (Utah Dept. of Transportaion) to build noise walls on both the west side and the east side of I-15 in conjunction with the lane additions slated for Spring of 2008.
