Reinstate Karen Murphy in the Commonwealth Games Team for Delhi. THE startling omission of Karen Murphy from Australia's Commonwealth Games team is believed to involve a personality clash. And reigning Commonwealth singles champion Kelvin Kerkow has criticised the make-up of the selection panel, saying two of the three selectors should not come from the one state (NSW). Kerkow said it was a disgrace that Australia's leading woman bowler had been denied the chance to represent at her fourth Games. Murphy won silver medals in fours and singles in 1998 and 2002 before skipping Lynsey Armitage to pairs gold in Melbourne in 2006. "I don't care whether she is judged on the last six months or the last five years, no one comes close to matching Karen's record," Kerkow said. "It is a ridiculous situation and other countries will be laughing at Australia. "They should not have two selectors from the one state and it could mean that the third selector (Queensland's Jenny Harragon) has no say." Former world singles champion Steve Glasson, who was controversially left out of the 2006 team, refrained from commenting on Murphy's treatment because of his position as a director of Bowls Australia. But Glasson said he was very disappointed for Murphy and knows how she feels. Bowls followers have been left aghast by the selection bombshell which promises to overshadow Australia's lead-up to the Games in Delhi in October.
