Juvenille Life Reform would immediatly put a stop to the cruel practice of sentencing child offenders in prison for terms of natural life for having aided and abetting non-murder offenses. This petition would send a clear message in urging lawmakers in Sacramento to adopt new legislation which would prohibit life sentencing for some teens. Teens who made poor choices, fled the scene, stood lookout, or road in getaway cars. In California, a life sentence is considered a death penelty to many people. How is it possible, or better yet, for how much longer will it be permitted to sentence a child to life for a non murder offense. Researchers in the science of human developement generally agree that adolescent developement does not come to fruition or fully mature until his/ her early twenties. The human brain continues to develop. Parts of the brain that coordinates the impulsivity judgement, planning for the future, forsight of consequences, and other characteristics that make people morally responsible. In sentencing minors to a life of imprisonment, we are in essence throwing them away from our society, from our nurturing, from our ability to mold our children into productive additions to our society. we treat children and adult differently, in an array of contexts: "Kids cannot drive""sit on jury""enter contracts""join the military""smoke or drink""marry""hold political office" yet we literally lock them up and throw away the key for non murderous offenses. Young people should be held accountable for their criminal actions in a way that allows them to grow and develop into successful adults. children are still learning, There is no definition of the future of an adolescent, no judge, doctor, or psychologist can predict the outcome for the future of an adolescent. Juvenille Life Reform would improve the law to reflect kids capacity for rehabilitation, most important it would provide some teens with a chance at establshing a real life beyond prison. This is not a get out of jail free card, instead it would greatly reduce the life sentencing. The initial total years handed down at sentencing would still apply. For example a 15- 25 years to life sentencing would mean 15-25 year sentence under the Juvenille life reform. This would be huge! It would create light at the end of the tunnel. hope for the hopeless. A sentence of life is a fitting crime for someone who take the life of another. The question asked here: Is a juvenille non-murder offender beyond redemption? Do you, yourself believe children are beyond redemption? The second chance that this country was built on is desperately needed childhood offenders. Please join this movement to help lead California out of the dark ages by banning the life sentence for juvenilles who have aided and abetted in non-murder offenses. Let's create change where it counts today! act now and sign the petition. Let your voice be heard!
