If they started the altercation, shouldn't Jason be seen as just defending himself. I just don't understand. Jason you in my prayersFlag

Name: Sarah Wells on Feb 13, 2008Comments: I think that is ridiculous that Mr. Vassell is being charged with two counts of assault. What is a person to do when they are being threatened and harassed in their own residence! Especially with racial violence and harassment increasing dramatically since the events of Jena 6, we citizens who are targets of such violence must take the measures to protect ourselves. When will the police and government realize thisFlag

Your help with this will be greatly appreciated by many, many friends and acquaintances of Jason's. Thank you, Patty McGill Office Manager Residence Life Resource Center UMass AmherstFlag

Name: Diane Ceballos on Feb 13, 2008Comments: I hope authorities and those implementing Jason's charges take a step outside the box and come to the realization that the charges he faces are not only unfair but unreasonable. Should have this been a white male attacked and then acted out the way Jason did he would have never come across these charges for a fact and his story would have made headlines. It disgusts me and saddens me to see that this type of injustice continues to be practiced by authority figures who are suppose to be role models and look out for the betterment of our society. Please reconsider Jason's charge. Thank you.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Feb 13, 2008Comments: This is a very sad case which leads me think, is there really such a thing as justice for people of color in the USA It perplexes me how the other two men involved in this case where let off the hook. One was not charged and the other was charged with two hate crimes and disorderly conduct How about trespassing, vandalism, breaking and entering, use of a deadly weapon (the one they used to break the window) assault with attempted murder because it was two on one Just like in the Jenna 6 case the allegations here are ridiculous. I dont know how many of you know this but in the Jenna 6 case one of the young men was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, the prosecutors said he used his sneaker as a deadly weapon!!! There is no justice in this country for people of color unless we fight for it, if someone had not taken the initiative of putting this petition up a lot of us would have never heard of this. It is very sad to see this happen over and over again and nothing is being done to correct the situation. In America millions of cases just like this one happen all the time and 9 times out if 10 they do not get reviewed unless people like us stand up and fight.Flag
