Today, 24/10/14, a Judge handed down a community service order to Enda Carroll, who assaulted Garda Lucy McLoughlin in Offaly Town, March 2012. Garda McLoughlin received injuries to her hip joint and knee, requiring extensive hospital treatment, and was unlcear at the time if she would ever be able to return to work. The DPP has 28 days to appeal the leniency of this sentence, and we believe that it should be, as this was an extremely horrific assault on a member of An Garda Siochana, and in turn on the state.
