Help the cuckoos to return to Cuckoo Wood … M20 traffic noise has already driven the cuckoos away from Cuckoo Wood, and has been blighting the lives of residents and schools in Sandling and Penenden Heath for more than 20 years. Some sections of the motorway have already been resurfaced with ‘whisper tarmac’, to reduce traffic noise, and a campaign is now being launched to petition for the resurfacing of the section between Junctions 6 and 7, to combat the continuously increasing noise of motorway traffic. A large area of Cuckoo Wood was recently acquired by a private buyer, and plans are underway to turn it into a Local Nature Reserve, so that natural wildlife and fauna can be restored to the woodland and preserved for the benefit of future generations. A Mid Kent Downs Countryside Partnership Management Plan, which is designed to achieve this objective, is currently being drafted, and a ‘Friends of Cuckoo Wood’ group is being set up to help implement the plan. If you are concerned about the effect of noise pollution on local residents, schools and businesses, and would like to help restore the woodland, please add your name to this petition by clicking on the link below.
