Dear Senators Gillibrand and Schumer, We are writing to respectfully urge you to nominate Justice Doris Ling-Cohan to the Federal bench. Justice Ling-Cohan is well-known to our members and to our community. We know Justice Ling-Cohan to possess the intellect and skills necessary to become a wonderful federal court judge as she has served with distinction as a state court judge for 14 years, an attorney for 31 years, and has published over 120 legal opinions in one of the busiest courts in the country. Her stirring opinion in Hernandez v. Robles is just one of many powerful judicial opinions she has authored over the years. Furthermore, Justice Ling-Cohan is well known in the Asian American community as a pioneer in terms of electoral politics and voter registration. She was the first Asian American elected to a prominent elected office, and the first Asian American female elected to the Supreme Court. Raised in Chinatown, a daughter of immigrants, who also worked as a seamstress as a kid, and graduated New York University School of Law on a full scholarship, she embodies the American dream. Naturally, she is a well-known role model for our community. I appreciate your consideration of Justice Ling-Cohan’s candidacy and respectfully urge you to nominate her to the federal court.
