Comments: A fantastic theatre that has accomodated so many productions and given so much joy to the many of us who have performed and rehearsed there. To lose such an incredible place is a huge disservice to the young people who use it and would continue to use it. With the various trials and tribulations facing the children and young people of today, First Act (with the Jubilee Theatre firmly at it's core!), is a shining example of how an organisation, run by selfless individuals, can bring people together to challenge themselves creatively and have fun whilst doing so. It would be a huge mistake to close a theatre that has not only helped so many people but also has the potentional to help so many more.

Comments: Im devastated to hear that the council would even consider closeing such and amazing resource for the community. I spent a lot of time at classes and working on productions as a child/early teen and i wouldn't be the person i am today had i not been part of it. It not only gave me a lot of the friends i still have today, but it also gave me confidence, helped my social skills and also inspired my degree in Drama and my MA in Dramatherepy, which i intend to use to work with autistic children. It is such a valuable asset and to close it down, would be irresponsible and a huge let down to all those involved past, present and future.

Comments: First Act is one of the North East's most valuable resources for launching careers within the performing arts and beyond. It provides young people with the opportunity to gain experience of working within a theatre environment. This is an opportunity and resource that is not met anywhere else in the city. It would be an absolute travesty to see First Act disappear and to prevent the Jubilee Theatre to continue to function for the purpose it was originally built. The Jubilee is a theatre of great historical significance, and it would be absurd to see it being used as anything other than a theatre. I endorse this petition fully.

Comments: The Jubilee Theatre has been our home for around 20 years now, it would be such a disgrace if we were to be kicked out now. So many lives would be affected by this change and I firmly believe that the Jubilee should remain as the beautiful, invaluble theatre it is today.

Comments: I have been greatly impressed by the quality and professionalism of the productions at First Act. The organisation is in my view a unique opportunity for young people to engage in all aspects of production. There will be a void left if this is no longer available to the people, young and the older participants. It must be retained.

Comments: Without mentioning the support First Act offered to St Nicholas' itself, I want to talk about what it did for me and many other. When I was 8 years old I was taken to First Act Theatre, having no previous interest or experience in theatre. From my first workshop I fell in love with performing. It was an opportunity for each person, all from different social backgrounds, to mix, to play, to experiment and to unite through their love of performing. The workshops offered a therapeutic effect - for those couple of hours a week it was your chance to completly lose yourself, have fun, take ownership of something and feel praise for your efforts. It was in a safe environment, with such a wonderful stage. The buzz behind a performance on the Jubilee stage, in the wings, backstage and front of house formed such a strong unity which most young people would never of had the opportunity to experience. This is something which should never be under estimated, and its devestating to hear First Act has been asked to move from The Jubilee Theatre, which has been so accessible for years. I have stayed in touch with many of the people I met there as a child, all wonderfully strong, confident and social people, and I honestly believe First Act played a part in this. Many have gone on to perform in some way or another and the Jubilee Theatre gave great experience of how a professional theatre works. Not just in performing, but stage management, lighting, sound, marketing, I could go on.... Where else in the North East can a young person do this! Without doubt this gave us a head start, extra confidence and self belief. I really hope this chance is not taken away from young people today. A wonderful stage and space is so rare to come accross and it totally baffles me why asking First Act Theatre to leave is a good idea. I hope someone sees sence soon.

Comments: I and my children have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of first act theatre within the jubilee theatre. The theatre is in such a wonderful condition, and I can't believe anyone wants to convert it into offices!! Save the Jubilee theatre so many more people can appreciate its beauty and participate in such a wonderful company as first act theatre.
