My second grader (son) has absolutely thrived in his environment in and out of the classroom. I attribute this positive experience to the strong leadership provided by Ms. Wallace and the respect and support she receives from parents and her staff.Flag

Name: Rob And Katherine Burgener on Mar 27, 2007Comments: We live in the Back Nine area of Jeremy Ranch. Michele Wallace has gone above and beyond her responsibility as a principal to help us with concerns about our children and their education. We believe it is in the best interest of the children at Jeremy Ranch Elementary School that Michele remain. She is a caring and consistent. She makes children feel special because she remembers all their names. We believe it is so important for children this age to keep consistency with their adult leaders to build their sense of security about the world around them.Flag

Please put all of your other considerations away, whatever they may be...policy, budget, etc. and think about the overall impact that this will have on our school and most importantly, our children.Flag

Name: Fran And Ray Johnson on Mar 27, 2007Comments: Ray and I feel the School Board acted in a non-responsible manner when they fired that teacher who wanted to raft through the Grand Canyon, and went ahead and did it after being denied permission. They were wrong to deny her request. We understand the Board is justifying the dismissal of Michelle Wallace on the grounds that a precedent has been set, and they need to follow it. Two wrongs don't make a right. Although not sure exactly of the details, we feel Michelle's record is so outstanding that it certainly justifies treating her as an individual, not part of a precedent. If the rule she violated was as short-sighted as the one about denying the leave for the Grand Canyon trip, one must hold the school board accountable for inflexible policies, which actually work against students' best interest when rigidly enforced. For these reasons we request that the School Board reexamine their actions.Flag

It seems extremely harsh and shortsighted to be dismissing her without any warning after 19 years of unblemished service.Flag

Name: Brian Harlig on Mar 27, 2007Comments: michele wallace has been an asset to the park city community and to remove her for allegations which have not been made public makes no sense. if the children are at risk...then that is grounds for dismissal. if the students' performance were an issue than that would be grounds for dismissal. if there was dissatisfaction within the ranks of the teachers at jeremy ranch elementary school than that might be grounds for dismissal. but, from what i gather, none of the above seems to be the case. then why...................Flag

Name: Lisa Fizer on Mar 27, 2007Comments: I have been impressed with Ms. Wallace and her commitment to doing the right thing for each and every student. I have a kindergartener this year who I hope will continue to have her as a principal. My older daughter was at Jeremy 5 years ago and I called the last day of school to inquire about the 4/5 split class they had proposed as we had showed interest. All of the teachers were gone. She answered the phone, explained they had decided not to do the split class and that my daughter had been assigned her teacher as she was a teacher that was strong in reading and that is where my daughter needed extra help. I was amazed to get the principal of a school on the phone and without any prior notice she could tell me she knew my daughter, what her needs were and where she was placed for the next year. We bought a house the next year in Pinebrook specifically to stay in the school boudaries for our younger two children to be able to attend the same school. Many thanks to Ms. Wallace for all she did then and will do for my next generation of kids at Jeremy.Flag

Please consider the impact to the students and their families and weigh this heavily in light of the decision made. Isn't there some "improvement plan" that you could implement before terminating her Thank you for your consideration in this matter.Flag

Name: Suzie Smith on Mar 27, 2007Comments: Ms. Wallace has spent countless hours on behalf of her students at JRES. She has given up family time to educate herself so she could be the best possible educator she could be, not only for her students but for her co-workers as well. In this day and age when we are trying desperately to get good, dedicated, educated, experienced individuals to want to be part of and stay in the education field I find it absurd that you would want to release one of the better ones.Flag

I observed nothing but the utmost professional behavior from Michelle. She was supportive of staff, parents, children and district in a very congenial and honest fashion. Terminating Michelle would be a huge mistake.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 28, 2007Comments: I believe Michelle Wallace acted in the best interest of the students in this matter. In regards to the personnel issue, I believe the board should re-examine the policy of vacation . . . in spite of what is in black in white -- this is not life and loosing exceptional teachers such as Mrs. Ferguson is a disgrace for the sake of contract issues. I can say this for I am a parent whose child was in that classroom. Take to heart that YES you need to send a message throughout the district, but not at the expense of well qualified individuals who are putting themselves out there for their students daily without the financial rewards that substantiate their work efforts. The message throughout the district should be we are listening and YES there should be changes in vacation policies and how to resolve such situations without punitive/letter of repremands in one's file. . . yet work together to resolve the issue where the teacher can "have a life" within the school year -- the fact that Julie took a stand, I applaud her and she should be re-instated with new vacation policies in place which allow for such as her situation to be able to take a week's vacation wih in the school year -- other districts do! Well, why not! when you have teacher's on endless sick leave without any punitive action! So, take heart, for the students sake and not for policy sake!Flag
