Baltimore Must Address False Arrest Problem!

Since March 2004, 30,000 people in Baltimore City have been arrested but not charged with any crime. Prosecutors at Central Booking routinely review the cases and decline to file criminal charges. After being dehumanized, demoralized, criminally processed, housed in overcrowded holding cells, and unnecessarily disrupted from their families and jobs, the arrestees are routinely released and sent on their way. Due to this sudden increase in unjustified arrests, Baltimore citizens are terrified. We demand that the state legislature and federal agencies investigate this matter thoroughly and bring healing to the community.

Comments: I had my home raided even though I was mayor of Baltimore. I was actually convicted and forced to resign as mayor. Had I known what was in store for me, I would have supported Delegate Jill P. Carter in this effort, in her call to reform the police department, and in her run for mayor. She's consistently been the only elected official in the city with vision, courage, and the ability to lead Baltimore City in the right direction. All I can say, Delegate Carter, is you've always been right.
