We, the undersigned, call on the Office for Judicial Complaints, and the Lord Chief Justice and Lord Chancellor in their role as arbiters of the conduct of Judges , to severely censure Judge George Bathurst-Norman for his conduct in the trial in Hove Crown Court of sevene defendants accused of breaking and entering and causing £180,000 worth of damage. We ask them to condemn the fact that the Judge clearly displayed his own political bias and personal background in instructing the jury to acquit the first five of the defendants on the grounds that they were "preventing Israel from committing war crimes". By referring to the situation in Gaza as part of his summing up he clearly feel short of one of the key prinicples of British justice, namely that judges should be unbiased and without prejudice, and should not allow their personal political views to colour their judgement. We understand that Judge Bathurst-Norman was called out of retirement to hear this case, and seek an inquiry as to why that happened, and, if it is felt to have been with a view to influencing the outcome of the case, that those responsible should also be censured. We call on the Lord Chief Justice to ensure that Judge Bathurst Norman is prevented from sitting in judgement at any time in the future and that he is publicly censured for this clear case of biased direction. If this judgement is allowed to stand and create a precedent it will clearly be a green light to terrorists and extremist activists to take the law into their own hands. We call on all those with a clear understanding of the priniciples of British justice to make their voices heard and support this call to the Office of Judicial Complaints by contacting them at The Office for Judicial Complaints 10th Floor Tower, 10.52 102 Petty France, London, SW1H 9AJ Tel: 020 3334 2555 Fax: 020 3334 2541 customer@ojc.gsi.gov.uk www.judicialcomplaints.co.uk
