I also believe it is greatly unjust if students with similar or even poorer grades have been given the opportunity to return to the school, while Josh clearly has not.Flag

LET JOSH GO!Flag

Name: Unsigned on Sep 2, 2006Comments: The school may allow students in who haven't achieved the required grades if it feels said students have put in sufficient effort that the grades may represent their potential, and that those students have also been motivated and well behaved throughout their time at school. If the school feels that a student will not be motivated beyond simply returning for the social environment, and the same student has not achieved good enough grades, they are more than likely to decide not to allow that student to return in favour of giving a more likely newcomer an opportunity.Flag

Name: Tiff on Sep 2, 2006Comments: It is a surprise that Josh has been primarily rejected a place in Latymer's Sixth Form and I'm sure that many agree that this decision should be reconsidered and Josh should be granted a place in Latymer's Sixth Form as his grades have vastly improved during this year, indicating that he is truly capable of working to high standards. It would be a great loss to the whole year without Josh, as he is a charismatic, interesting character and is a delight to be around. let him come back PLEASE x x x xFlag

Name: Steve on Sep 3, 2006Comments: When i took the examinations to enter Latymer one of the main reasons for me was that i would be assured of a place in the 6th form should there be no major incedents. It then came as a suprise to me to be told i had to acheive the marker of 6 A's to get into the 6th form, i know this was also a suprise for Josh. As far as i am aware Josh Cohen has not been involved in ANY extreme incidents that would have put him or the school to shame. To get into Latymer one not only has to pass an academical exam, but one has to submit a form listing extra curricular involvement and acheivement. This is becasue, in their own words, the school beleive, that "school life should be valued for itself and not only as a preparation for adulthood. The heart of the school's aims is the intellectual, cultural and social development of all pupils in a context of mutual esteem and sensible good order." Josh Cohen consistently put in Dramatical performances far above those to be expected of a GCSE student. His ability behind the camera is also far greater than any other student i have come across. More than this, he ENJOYS his media and drama and consequently these were among his chosen A levels. But apart from the fact that Josh should remain in the school on his own merit there is the fact that he seems to be receiving special treatment regarding the ridiculous 6 A's rule. Other students have acheived this marker and been allowed to continue their studies but why not Josh. I am not sure but i do believe that the school pays far too much attention to academical acheivement and in getting students through exams as if it is a factory for oxbridge. I think it shows careless judgement on the schools part to not see what Josh brings to the school, and would continue to bring. He is an immensely popular member of the year, as you can no doubt see from reading these comments. I urge the school to reconsider their judgement for fear of the school losing someone who has increased hie effort dramatically in recent months (as his excellent GCSE grades testify) and who would love to continue his education at Latymer.Flag

Name: Paul Holloway on Sep 4, 2006Comments: As the brother of one of Josh Cohen's best friends at Latymer, i have got to know Josh very well over the last 5 years or so. From my time with Josh i can see he is a kind, bright boy. Despite Josh being immature at times during his spell at Latymer, he has never commited any major offences, causing the school to wish he was educated elsewhere. Josh's GCSE results were exceptional and had he got a few more marks he would have been let back into the shcool straight away. If you compare Josh's GCSE resutls to his mock results you can see just how much staying at Latymer means to him and the effort he has put in throughout the last 6 months. Not only this, but Josh achieved fantastic grades in the subjects he wishes to pursue into the 6th form, and therefore you can see that by letting Josh stay, he will achieve good A-level results that will only enhance the reputation of the Latymer school. I urge you to reconsider this horribly harsh decision and allow Josh to fulfill his incredible potential in his chosen subjects.Flag
