Name: Caoimhlin Switonski on Aug 30, 2006Comments: josh rightly deserves to stay on at latymer. Even tho he did not meet the exact grades required , he has made a significant improvement , from B's Cs and Ds to getting 2A*s and2A*s. This definatly needs to be taken into account, so josh is able to stay on next year. he is also a top joker and a top actor. i need him as my drama buddy next year!Flag

Name: Daniel Pallace on Aug 30, 2006Comments: It is a disgrace that Josh has been/will be thrown out of Latymer. Firstly, when taking an entrance test for the school students are by no means made aware that they may be discgarged after 'sub standard' GCSE results. I know that when I entered the school the fact that Latymer do not stop willing students from returning to the 6th form was a strong point. This was the same for my younger brother, and indeed Josh Cohen. Secondly the improvement and willingness to improve shown by Josh Cohen is outstanding when comparing recent mock results to his actual GCSEs. He has achieved excellent grades in the subjects he wished to continue. He has contributed well in activities such as off curriculum drama and is obviously one of the more talented students in the media department. The fact that he is loved by so many students in his year and around the school also shows how well he mixes and that he will do no harm to the reputation of the school if this may be a reason why he has been asked to find a place elswhere. Also i know for a fact that students from outside of the school have been allowed into the 6th form with grades below 6As and the thought of expelling Josh Cohen to allow someone else in it outrageous. To not let Josh continue his studies at Latymer is frankly apaulling and the school should be ashamed of their conduct and deserve any negative media or opinions gained from this act. This is a great shame.Flag

Name: Edward Latymer on Aug 30, 2006Comments: When I founded the school in 1624 I would never have imagined the truly great and powerful creature that Latymer has grown into today. From my rather unique perspective of being an ex-headmaster who has been dead for 350 years I hope I can offer a fresh and valuable opinion from my slightly distanced and more neutral perspective. A school is built around a society between pupils and teachers. The environment created in Latymer is one of true co-operation with a focus on success and development. However, there is always conflict between those with power and those with none. This dichotomy between the haves and the have nots must always be assessed to prevent catastrophe and maintain balance. As such the actions taken by those in authority will always have the needs of the greater good ahead of the individual. However, they are only human, and as such are liable to mistakes and errors of judgement. With this at the front of our mind, we can begin to look at the situation in hand. The reality of the situation is that Josh has not met the official grades to gain a place in the 6th form by default. However, Latymer was not built on unforgiving rules that acknowledge a grade or a mark ahead of what that person has given to the school, and can continue to offer. I remember one boy from my teaching days in particular. He turned up in 1627 in his breeches and woollen socks, and quite frankly he was a disgrace, and I was ready to turn him away after he failed to complete his alphabet on the first day. The petulant little snot-weasel could barely read, and his handwriting looked like he had elbows for hands. However what I saw in him was character, drive and potential. This young lad matured into a valuable pupil, and although he tragically became an alcoholic and died of liver failure at 34, you could see he was close to achieving greatness. Im sure the teachers and governors will consider this decision very carefully, and will reach the sensible decision to allow josh to continue to the 6th form. However, rest assured that I will be ghosting around their houses, hiding in closets, saying boo, and the rest in order to persuade them to come to see the situation more clearly. Qui patitur vincit my childrenFlag

His hard work deserved to be rewarded no matter wot the grades and it is outrageous that other members of the year have got into the 6th form with similar results. Josh will be a huge loss to the year if the school does not change its mind.Flag

Name: Tobi on Aug 31, 2006Comments: Basically, its foolish if he is not kept in the school. He is easily one of the most improved pupils from january to now and for the effort he has clearly put in, he should clearly be rewarded. How can a child that achieved 2A* and 2As not be allwed to retain his place in even the most selevtive sixth form Especially from a person who is far more of a arts achiever than an academic one People off all skills types of skills should be allowed to recieve the best possible education especially when he has been there so long.Flag

Name: Alice on Aug 31, 2006Comments: josh should be allowed to come back because hes very talented in media and drama and the school needs to learn to value the less academic subjects and to value people for what they give to the school rather than what grades they achieve. plus hes a laugh.Flag
