Name: Anonymous on Mar 26, 2007Comments: This is clearly an idea that is not militated by the needs of the children but of freeing up valuable development land. The fact that there has been little if any publicity of this issue leads one to wonder when our locally elected leaders were going to tell the community about this move and have a proper and transparent debate about what should happen to John Roan school and how to improve the standards at this school in order that local people will want to send their children to this school.Flag

Name: Tom Dingley on Mar 26, 2007Comments: Don't fix what isnt broken! Yes the school needs some updating, but the location works well and does not effect the local surroundings. Moving the sight will disrupt the school's natural way of life, and also disrupt the local area as the building work commences on the maze Hill and WCP sites.Flag

Name: Johnny Khakh on Mar 26, 2007Comments: I was a student at this school, and where it is built is suitable for John Roan to be. I believe that John Roan just needs to be improved, not re-built. Improvements such as change of Head Teacher, but there's another petition for that. Please keep the school where it is, thank you!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 27, 2007Comments: I am shocked to hear of the Council's plans to move the School to the peninsula. At the moment, the children are so fortunate to have so much space, to be surrounded by so much fresh air, and to be surrounded by such serenity. What a terrible thing to move them to the peninsula where they would lose all these assets.Flag

Name: Alison Perry on Mar 27, 2007Comments: We also have a campaign in place to stop the council relocating a school from Plumstead to the Hervey Road Sports field. Why don't they move the Plumstead school to the pennisula and we'd all be happy! We have had no public consultation and very little information from the council.Flag

Name: Julia Brundell on Mar 27, 2007Comments: This is an awful idea and makes it quite apparent that the Council puts our children's education at the bottom of its priorities. I would have thought that an Borough whose secondary school results are as poor as Greenwich's have been for many years, would be seeking ways to encourage local parents to use the local schools, rather than the opposite.Flag

Name: John Edwards on Mar 28, 2007Comments: I was a pupil at Charlton Boys School in the 1960's. The school later merged with John Roan. The school, which was on two sites, was located in a heavily industrial area on the Woolwich Road and with hindsight I am convinced that this contributed to a significant worsening of my asthma during that period. It is madness to repeat history and relocate John Roan to an area that will risk the health of students. This proposal must be abandoned and re-thought.Flag

Name: Beryl Ann Scott on Mar 29, 2007Comments: As Headteacher of Roan Girls' School (1975-1979) I was involved in the comprehensivisation of the school and its amalgamation with the Boys' school. To be part of John Roan's vision for the education of 'the poor children' of Greenwich was the guiding principle of my tenure of office and I am horrified by the proposals for the future of the school and its repercussions for students and staff.Flag

I am a teacher in two local primary schools, have heard much concern from parents in both playgrounds especially regarding air quality and lack of space on the proposed new site and my sympathies are with them.Flag
