Dave Lawrence | As a former Roan pupil inthe 60s I am dismayed by these plans that seem to ignore centuries of history.
| 552 | Anonymous | I am a previous student of John Roan, and i am totally against this move.
It will not only bring years of history down with the school but stifle the progress of all future students. |

| 554 | Anonymous | I support the school staying on it's exisiting site.
The suggested new location is wholly unsuitable and will be of detriment to the health and well being of the children. |
Anonymous | It is disgusting that the council are moving the school from a number of fantastic locations to the horribly polluted and horrendously redeveloped Greenwich Peninsula. No doubt the land the school sits on is worth a fortune when sold to developers...
Peter and Beryl Hooker | We were two students of the Roan Schools in the 1950s. We are proud of the education that we received and the opportunities it gave us when we left. The plans for the Peninsular appear to provide dense developement and not a very good environment in which to learn. Why cram a school onto this site? Is it just to provide more land for prestigious housing beside the park on the road upto the Heath. Updating the facilities on the existing sites would provide a better atmorsphere in which to learn. The island site must be polluted. It is not fair for the next generations to suffer for what appears to be a financial gain for someone!
jacqui freeman | assuming the facts presented by the campaign group are correct, I completely oppose the plans to relocate john raon school. Such uncertainlty does nothing for the morale of pupils and staff and those parents with primary school children facing a still uncertain future for our local school.

Anonymous | As a previous John Roan graduate and having grown up and reside in greenwich, the impact of moving the school to the peninsula would not only make travel for children in the locality difficult but also those attending other events such as olympics and those simply travelling into the area for shopping and crossing via the blackwall tunnel! The school has a lot of history and heritage which would be lost by its unnecessary relocation.
Hugo Sands | Joan Roan has an excellent site where it is.
John Povey | I am appalled that such a scheme could even be suggested. Condeming future students to such conditions (poor air quality and lack of open space) will only lead to an increase in asthmatic and obese children. Well done Greenwich Council! I am a former pupil but I would not want any granchild of mine to go to school on the Peninsula.

mmadore | I have a son who used to go to this school a few years back. i am worried that if the john roan school moves from its present site to the peninsular then it could cause a array of problems such as traffic congestion, children getting hurt and many others.
samantha thomas nee-manners | I am saddened to think that this wonderful school will lose it's superb site. part of what has made Roan great is it's wonderful buildings, steeped in architectural history. As an old Roan girl, i was really sad to hear that the old girls grammer is now apartments. a bit of history sold down the river. but i do hope that the powers that be see sense & keep the current, fantastic sites so that future pupils will have a school to be proud of for many years to come.
Chris Logan | As an ex-pupil and ex-teacher, I feel that the removal of the school to the proposed site and the planned new structure would betray the history of the school and prove completely unsuitable for the purpose of education.
lesley bryant | Only a greenwich councillor could think children would be better off if moved from a Blackheath site to an industrial health risk
simone ottey | One of the schools I've looked at for my daughter for the new year seven to start in sept. I know the proposed site for the new building and I think it's not acceptable ie. health & safety issues and partly why would you want to move a school from a ideal location for children into a over polluted area?
Anonymous | The school is fine where is it, leave it alone
nancy ottey | 37 million on a new school, why don't they just spend it on the present school?
Anonymous | It has to be said that many of us suspect that there's some corruption going on here in the council. The decision to go ahead with this move has been forced through and the administrative procedures of Greenwich Council should be investigated. I am dismayed that it is proving so difficult to expose the malpractice. They have acted incredibly irresponsibly and it is affecting the children of Greenwich. Sadly we won't be sending our children to this school now that the decision has been made to move it to the Peninsula.
carrie-ann watkins | this would be a shame to move the school and reduce the size and increase the number of pupils......
Anonymous |
Anonymous | This is a Historic place in an ideal school location. It would be absurd to move it to any other location.
John Coyle | Sad and so unnecessary................another product of a throw-away mentality.
David Snape | It would be a trajedy to move the Roan School from the Maze Hill site. I assume the motive is purely financial and that luxury homes would be built there at the expense of the health and education of the children. Shame on you Greenwich for even thinking it!.
Caroline Luguet | LUDICROUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alex Schouvaloff | As Greenwich residents, we decided to support our local secondary school by sending our children there. The oldest starts this year. To find out that the school is moving, to what seems to be a totally inappropriate site, is very depressing news.
Linda Ball |
Steven Dibdin | Moving to an area that has high pollution, poor public transport access and will have a smaller facility makes no sense.
Dr. R. J. Barton | A truly disgusting plan proposed by fools who will never have to inhabit the prison!
terence capon | It seems that the bean counters have prevailed over common sense.
Chris Bennell | This is an appalling proposal which seems to have nothing to commend it. As a former pupil from the 50's, I have always felt the existing site in Maze Hill was (and still is) one of the best locations for a school in London. I suspect political motives. Let's not deprive future generations of the advantages which we enjoyed!
Julie Conalty | John Roan is a really good school, but investment is needed in its buildings and current site. Have real concerns about the proposals and am also very interested to see the idea of creating mini schools (just as Roan used to operate) coming back into favour. This would mean the split site would no longer be a problem.
| 587 | Ana | the schools been there for more 300 years
i think its about time we moved
to a bigger and better placee to reflect on our achivements and grades |
keith lowson | i went to john roan and left in 2002 n i think john should stay where it is!!!!!
Ron Sudds |
Sue
John Janes | I fully support the opposition to moving the roan to the peninsular. I am an Old Roan who travelled from Plumstead to the school and can say that while this was worth it at the time I envy any pupils that could walk to school and could derive a sense of community from the stablishment
Michael Blaze | As the father of Roseanne and Charlotte Blaze Ihave seen first hand what this marvellous school can do for young people and part of that is a result of it`s location. To put it in a bland sterile environment like the Peninsula is TO RISK THE FUTURE OF OF ALL FUTURE STUDENTS
Paul Leman
DON VIDLER | My old school Charlton Secondary Boys School was amalgamated into the John Roan School. As School Captain in 1954 I have a web site for the school. I support all the previous comments condemning the proposed move. I challenge all those responsible to put their names on record now for causing the obvious disaster that will eventuate. I would send my children/grandchildren to a private school. Good schools keep house prices higher. Please stop this move now and keep the school as it is. Yes I live in Australia but am still concerned. I put myself in the shoes of the studentd.
John Poole
A E Loveland | why does this generation of we know best be allowed to destroy the structure and culture of the finest school in the south east.
Robin South | The founder would be horrified at this proposed move. The present site can be redeveloped & with respect the proposed new site would be to the detriment of all concerned .As an ex pupil (1953-59) I am amazed that anyone could think that this is a good move.
Anonymous | THE PETITION SAYS IT ALL IN ONE GO
E THOMPSON |
John Biles | How can anyone in their right mind even start to consider this move an option.
