Re: Request for John Lennon Commemorative Postage Stamp Issue by the United States Postal Service

Dear Members of the CitizensÂ’ Stamp Advisory Committee:

I am writing to request that the Committee recognize the contributions of John Lennon to American culture and life with his likeness on an official United States postage stamp for release in 2010.

John Lennon left an indelible mark on American history. His music was and still is loved by millions of Americans. Literally thousands of Americans celebrate and pay tribute to this man and his musical creations. A generation of Americans grew up with Lennon and his music, and his influence can still be seen in todayÂ’s music and education.

Even before he became an American citizen in the 1970s, his ideals were the same principles on which our great country is based. Peace. Freedom. Caring. Love. By putting Lennon on a postage stamp, you would be supporting these ideals and his lasting legacy and contributions.

Finally, it should be known that John Lennon was an avid stamp collector! In fact, a childhood stamp collection of Lennon\'s was recently auctioned. Lennon\'s collection contained more than 550 stamps, including many of the United States Postal Service issue.

Thank you for your time and consideration and I hope you will permit the stamp to be issued.
