Comments: Oh! I didn't notice the details at the side of the petition as the information on most petitions is above the signature box. This is disgraceful and whoever is responsible should be ashamed of themselves. Maybe you should bring this to the attention of a higher authority like a state education board Bring this to the attention of local/state/national newspapers and radio and TV stations. Publicity can make a difference. I'm not saying it's as important as your brother's right to graduating, but a SciFi show I adore was cancelled early last week. The TV station have now received unwanted publicity from from national and several international newspapers after fans brougnt their attention to the cancellation. It even received extensive coverage from CNN. The publicity is now making the channel sweat and reconsider cancellation. I suggest you do the same with this matter. Unwanted publicity may make the school administration think twice.

Comments: My son is a mild-moderate autistic. When it is time for his class to graduate, I pray they let him attend. He has connected with his class, and even though academically he is behind them, they have connected with him. They cheer him on, and he does the same for them. Missing out on the graduation celebration would be devasting for a child with autism who does not always understand the system that labels him or her as "different" or why they are different. This is punishment that these children do not deserve. They want to celebrate with their friends because they want to be accepted. Do not ostracize him because of 4 credits. I'm not saying hand him a diploma, but let him take part, let his accomplishment (and it is quite an accomplishment) be acknowledged. It won't be the same the next year with strangers. Let Joey celebrate with his friends.

Comments: I am a former Exceptional Children's classroom teacher. I've always believed it is wrong when certain school systems refuse to allow these children, who struggle to meet their goals, are denied the opportunity to walk at graduation. Good luck on forcing the system to allow him to walk.

Comments: What would possess an educator to deny a child with a disability the opportunity to walk with his classmates What in the world could possibly be that important When we put policy over the people we have ceased being human.

Comments: As a mother of an autistic son that the school board should have an IEP for Joe. this should state what obligations that the school has to complete in order for joe to complete school. I know here in minnesota that kid with special needs are eligable to continue on to school until the age of 21. the school and the gardican or parents as well as the student has the right to see the school records and protest the decision that the school has made at a school board meeting if this doesnot work try your states board of education.
