There are almost 4,400 pupils in the four schools in the immediate area (Haydon, Nothwood, Harlyn and Coteford) and it is a residential street with a supposed speed limit of 30mph. We wish to have increased police presence to deter speeding and traffic calming measures introduced or speed cameras before someone is killed on this road. The additional zebra crossing is a welcome feature, but it does nothing to slow drivers down between that crossing and the field, closer to the shops. The fact that this is a through road with heavy trafic means that large commercial vehicles use it and frequently exceed the 30mph. Cars and motorbikes overtake and crossing the road can be perrilous; especially for young people who are still unable to judge the speed of an on coming vehicle.
