Name: Emilia Michael on Jun 23, 2011Comments: Without Jobwatch's services, mistreated employees will find themselves in a far more vulnerable position. Jobwatch's expertise in employment related matters is invaluable. The service delivery is unique from any other community service in Victoria. However, Jobwatch can only prove to be effective if it has sufficient funding to operate. I call on the Federal Government to provide the funds necessary to see Jobwatch continue to operate.Flag

I had been referred here and there and got real confused about how to get help with my job and the one place everyone told me to ring [JobWatch] I couldnt get thru to and saw on their website they were in trouble with funding. I ended up getting help from them [thankfully] and us workers really need a place like this. Someone needs to help them so they can help us I truly believe. Yours Sincerely, Virginia.Flag

If it wasn't for job watch I would have never got my entitlements paid out and my faith in the law would have been distroyed!! Once again Im being treated unfairly in the workplace and would be lost for answers if not for job watch.Flag

Name: Cathy on Jun 27, 2011Comments: I have personally used Job Watch's services, after extremely poor treatment from an unscrupulous employer (underpayment/discrimination/unfair dismissal/unpaid super). Without their help, at the most vulnerable time in my life so far, I could never have received any entitlements. To hear that Job Watch were at risk of closing down was truly devastating. They provide a necessary service for vulnerable members of our society who have been taken advantage of by their employers. Please do not let their services be affected by this terrible decision to slash funding.Flag

Name: Denise Budge on Jun 29, 2011Comments: Employment rights are integral to our basic human rights to work and be treated fairly. This does not always happen and the communities right to have access to the law to resolve employment disputes but if you reduce the access to Jobwatch you will be disadvantaging those that need the service the most - the ones that do not have the knowledge about the rights or the skills to advocate for themselves. Please fund Jobwatch appropriately!!Flag

Name: Steven K Womersley on Jun 29, 2011Comments: The ALP needs to put its 'Working Families' money where its mouth is. If ever a service existed to help working Victorians get a fair suck of the sauce bottle, it's JobWatch. Please ante up to the state government and let JobWatch get on with the job.Flag

Name: Brett Edgington on Jun 29, 2011Comments: Jobwatch survived Kennett but it looks like it will not survive Baillieu. I refer a lot of people to the Jobwatch service for help and advice, many of them when they are in dire situations - it is vital and important. Not only for their work and income to support their family but for their mental health and well being knowing there is someone there to have their back when their employer does the wrong thing. Such a vital service - so necessary.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jun 29, 2011Comments: I work for a legal referral agency which regularly gets calls from members of the public seeking legal assistance with employment law queries. Pro bono legal assistance is not always available or appropriate for these people, but at the same time, engaging a private lawyer is beyond their means. A centralised free legal advice phone service, such as the service JobWatch provides, is essential for people to be able to make informed decisions about pursuing their rights in the context of an employment dispute. The legal information services provided by Legal Aid and Fair Work Australia are excellent, but they are no substitute for legal advice. An effective, free advice service can also avoid employment matters with no merit being pursued in court, which wastes the court's limited resources. Similarly, unrepresented litigants are a drain on the court. We often refer clients to a pro bono barrister with JobWatch acting as instructing solicitor. JobWatch deserves to operate in a fiscally secure environment and to be funded in a way that recognises the value of its service to the community.Flag

Name: Jessica Moore on Jun 29, 2011Comments: This is a great service it is a valuable tool for people in the workplace to get the right information about their rights and responsibilities at a 'one stop shop'. It is a shame that such a great service will be forced to close down. Imagine a world with no services like this so many people could be treated wrongly and they wouldnt even know or have anyone to turn to. I hope that the government will eventually see sense before this wonderful service is shut down.Flag

Hands off this type of funding Gillard and Co . You wont be getting my vote next time that's for sure .Flag
