Name: Kenneth Daniels on May 11, 2003Comments: This is just outrageous! I have been away for 3 weeks and come back to find this is going on. I come to UUCF to get away from this behind the door political cr*p I have had to endure my entire life working at various corporations. I haven't been a member of UUCF that long (6 months). I chose UUCF over other congregations in large part because I felt comfortable with Rev. Nelson. Sad to say that if the decision is made to dismiss Rev. Nelson, I will be forced to look elsewhere as well!Flag

Name: Jim Hood on May 11, 2003Comments: Jim Nelson would probably be the first to admit he sometimes acts (or, more precisely, talks) without developing a five-year strategic plan. This is a weakness but also a strength. You may not agree with him but you know where he stands. I agree with Marsha Stanley and her group that any change should be carefully considered and that the congregation's obligation to Jim and his family not be disregarded.Flag

Name: Marybeth Turner on May 11, 2003Comments: Jim Nelson was one of the primary reasons I joined the church - him, and the music. Unitarianism offered me the hope that a church community could avoid this type of conflict. I applaud your efforts to treat this situation with respect and understanding and fairness, all of which play an important role in my spiritual journey - a common ground I thought we all shared.Flag

Name: Amanda Adolph on May 11, 2003Comments: I am shocked by this. I have been visiting UUCF since August of 2002, and have found it to be a wonderful and warm spiritual community, primarily because of Rev. Nelson's work. His sermons are moving, inspiring, humbling and touching. They are extremely thoughtful and motivating. I have been considering becoming a member because of him - the services are much different when he is not there, and typically not as powerful. I am saddened by the news conveyed in this site and in the flier distributed 5/11. I am even more surprised that all the discussion of this on the UUCF website is buried in the board minutes. I cannot possibly consider joining UUCF if this is the way business is done. I hope the members have an opportunity to be heard, and his good work is rewarded with equity, fairness and justice that is preached by UUs.Flag

We are also quite disturbed with the petition to change the the minsteral leadership of the church and thank you for putting forth this petition. We clearly support Jim and his family. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.Flag

Name: Michael Wingo on May 11, 2003Comments: As a relative new-comer to the UUCF community, I find it difficult to fathom that UUs would consider such an action without a vote or, at the very least, input from the entire membership. I look forward to the May 20th meeting in order to learn more about this situation.Flag

Name: Dorothy McGowan on May 12, 2003Comments: I am 100% behind Jim Nelson. I find him to be a gifted, inspired religious leader. His presence in the church has made a tremendous difference to me, my husband, and my daughter. Aside from whatever issues some of the congregation has with Jim, I am shaken by the underhanded, secretive means the way this issue has been handled. The conduct of the board is not what I would have thought of a UU. I am shaken that in the still of the night a much loved and respected minister can be removed. I just made my $75 pledge so that as the newletter says I can be considered an official member of the congregation - monthly checks, my husband teaching RE, and my daughter's involvement in the church apparently are not sufficient to make me a member of the church with a voice. Now that I have pledged the mandatory minimum I will also pledge that I will not contribute another $$$$ until I see whether or not Jim stays or goes and a complete review of the conduct of the board.Flag

Name: Randall Biggers on May 12, 2003Comments: Although there appears to be some legitimate complaints, the Board should be able, especially now with all our help, to iron this out. Jim is an excellent speaker, who gives thoughtful, inspiring sermons. I would like him to stay with us.Flag

Name: Diane Cooper on May 12, 2003Comments: I joined UUCF because of Jim Nelson. The first time I heard one of his sermons I was hooked. To lose him would be terrible. I do not know what is going on, but I sincerely hope the whole congregation is made aware of this stressful event and that we may all participate in giving our opinions. I hope UUCF future is not determined by just a few. I will help anyway I can. - Diane CooperFlag

Name: Jackie De Oliveira on May 13, 2003Comments: If anyone told me even 6 months ago that I would become a regular church member I'd have laughed, or fainted, or both. However, we regularly attend UUCF now and Jim Nelson is a main reason we do so. He has been very welcoming and we also enjoy his thought provoking sermons--wonderfully delivered with candor, conviction, and a sense of humor where appropriate. We are saddened that there is such strife in our new spiritual home, and hope that there will be time for our views, and the views of those who feel like us, to be heard.Flag
