4 mark levineJimmy Carter's book in fact understates the level of apartheid-like practices by the Israeli government in the occupied territories. That this is well known in israel and discussed regularly in the press, but cannot be spoken without charges of anti-Semitism or self-hating Jewishness being hurled around in the US attests to the level of hypocrisy and moral disingenuousness of the organized Jewish community's leadership. Anyone who doesn't believe that what is happening in the OT is the moral and practical equivalent of apartheid era South Africa should read the new book "The West Bank and GAza STrip" by Tel Aviv University professor emeritus and fomer Israeli Interior Ministry official Elisha Efrat, who specifically uses the word apartheid on p. 83 to describe the impact of the bypass road system in the OT and the larger impact of Israel's settlement system. the AJC and other groups can accuse Carter all they want, but his depiction is far closer to reality than theirs.

7 Jonathan KlateI have personally witnessed the terrible challenges confronting the Palestinian people as they persist under permanent occupation by the Israeli military while their land is annexed in contravention of international law and with the support of the United States government. President Carter is correct in much of what he presents in his book. I admire his courage in using his prestige to encourage examination and meaningful dialogue about this persistent injustice that is scarcely reported in our mainstream media. He is withstanding a withering barrage of personal criticism while there is precious little engagement with his ideas. I fully support his good work in this matter and hope his book is widely read.
8 Marcy WinogradIt is painful to criticize Israel. So-called scholars accuse you of betraying your ancestors. Friends and family look at you as though you are abandoning the tribe. Ultimately, though, the tribe is much larger than one religious or ethnic group. The tribe is the world community -- and to be in harmony with that community one must stand on the side of peace, equality, and human rights.

18 Dorothy ReikWe deserve to hear both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflct. The news we have been getting is just reworked Israeli press releases.

31 John P. JonesIt's amazing that Israel becomes hostile when her policies are questioned or examined. If Israel is as righteous as it would like the world to believe, then it should welcome examination and questions. Unfortunately (for Israel), the entire world knows that Israeli policies are racist, dehumanizing and ILLEGAL. Wake up Israel supporters ..!!! How long before you give your humanity priority over your religion, politics and nationalism??? You ... and Israel .. will never ever have security until you realize that you cannot occupy and repress others. No justice, no peace.

36 AnonymousMost of what Carter says can be read any day in articles by the more left writers for Haaretz, which is to say, liberal Jews in Israel are hardly shocked by it. Agreement is not necessary. Respecting the view point as one valid perspective not motivated by ill intent is necessary.
37 Edith PollachI strongly endorse this petition & encouraging debate about the Israeli- Palestinian conflict so that the incessant fighting can be stopped sooner rather than later.

44 Peter BelmontI ask every US politician to openly endorse the Rule Of Law in all international matters, and to openly call for a US policy demanding that Israel comply with international law and agreements in the conduct of its occupations and, most important, remove both the WALL and the SETTLERS from all occupied territories.

46 Stephen VeghHope more Jews will join our Organization, otherwise the bigot American Jewish Lobby will make our struggle for the truth an uphill battle.
47 Dick PlatkinMy reading of the book indicates that Carter comfortably fits into the Israeli peace camps of the Labor Party and Meretz. Some of these forces, such as Shulamit Aloni and B'Tzelem, openly use the term "apartheid" to describe the social ajnd political situation on the West Bank. They also advocate the same two state solution that Jimmy Carter does The vehemency of most of the official Jewish community in vilifying Carter must result from a political viewpoint which totally supports the settlements, even if they are a barrier to local and regional peace program.
