The Government should be taken to task over such an insensitive action which could have been prevented with better management. Jean I hope you get a new date fore surgery and very soon. Name: Judy Canell on Jan 10, 2005State: NVCountry: USComments: I think what has happened to my dear friend Jean Unthinkable to say the least. This delay could mean a difference of life and death for her, not counting the psychological reaction to having to go through this type of procedure anyway. Every second counts in this situation. I hope you will re consider your standards of care for patients and the expediency at which she should have this surgery as well as others in this situation. Sincerely Judy Canell Member of Vaco and Cancer surviverFlag

Name: Carol Cheyney Roberts on Jan 10, 2005State:Country: USComments: Prime Minister and Health Minister of the United Kingdom, the reason for cancellation of Jean's surgery because an ICU bed was not available is uncomprehensible. The United Kingdom is known for advancement in medical technology, lack of ICU bedding after this extensive surgery is inadequate planning of recovery follow through and a break down of communication with the medical community. What would be even more horrid is if she would have been in her surgery, (theatre) and then finding out that, Oh, there isn't any ICU beds. If this was your wife or sister or mother, what would you do to make sure that the recovery ICU beds and the preoperative process is discussed with the patient and the recovery is preplannedFlag

Name: Maureen Kirlin on Jan 11, 2005State: NJCountry: USComments: May I say first that it is unbelieveable that something like this should take place in such a progressive country. Obviously it appears that socializing medicine is not the answer if we want the best care. I am appalled that this woman is being treated with little or no human empathy by the hospital.Flag

Name: Connie Bauer on Jan 11, 2005State: WVCountry: USComments: This is an outrage. It is hard enough to mentally prepare yourself for this kind of surgery. Then to be cancelled at the very last minute due to the lack of a bed and having to mentally deal with the whole thing over again is devestating. As the petition states, when dealt with quickly, the prognosis is good. If not, it can be fatal. Vulva cancer patients do not just deal with the physical side of the cancer. There is also the mental side of it. This is probably one of the hardest surgeries/cancers for a female to deal with. It deals with their whole being as a female. It is in essence their whole identity. As a vulva cancer survivor who has been down this road and still deals with the after effects, I find this treatment of Jean to be outrageous and just plain wrong. Something needs to be done to ensure that this does not happen again. No woman facing this tramatic surgery should ever be treated in this manner.Flag

Name: Debbie Lafferty on Jan 11, 2005State: GACountry: USComments: We in the US tend to think the UK has a great plan for taking care of folks who cannot afford expensive medical care. What a terrible thing to have to go through as a cancer patient or anyone else for that matter. I'm thankful I do NOT have to wait for a bed to be provided when I needed surgery here in the US. I hope this UK gal gets the help she needs. Debbie Lafferty (Endo(3c),skin cancer, fibro)Flag

Name: Dubsy Dubs on Jan 11, 2005State:Country: UKComments: I most certainly do support this campaign, but due to my own fears about 'stranger-danger' and the well documented 'wierdness' of the internet, I'm reluctant to give a postal code. I will certainly be writing to my own MP about this and will mention this site and the petition. Hope that's okay. Best wishes for the success of your campaign.Flag
