Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, LIBAW, real life in Christ does not practice nor condone statements that denigrate individuals or organizations, even if we may disagree with an action, attitude or philosophical ideology. We believe and endeavor to promote the Biblical injunction of "...speaking the truth in love." As a core value, we shun contention, because the Word of God declares that, only by pride comes contention. Proverbs 13:10 However, Jude 1:3 instructs us to "...earnestly contend for the faith." The difference in these two actions is profound. With that said, we draw your attention to an insidious and dangerous song by the Hip Hop musical icon and multi-platinum artist Jay-Z. The song, Empire State of Mind from the album Blue Print 3, that is currently climbing the charts and has over 7,000,000 views on You Tube contains lyrics that are indisputably anti-Christian. Two lines in particular fly in the face of the mission of Jesus Christ and the message of His Holy Spirit. Exerpt "...Hail Mary to the city, you're a Virgin, And Jesus can't save you, life starts when the church ends,..." These words are not harmless nor innocuous, the fact that both Jay-Z and Alicia Keys have such vast audiences and powerful platforms, makes the above mentioned statements all the more destructive and confusing to both young and old alike. Those that might be considering turning to Jesus Christ for their eternal salvation will take pause of that decision, considering the disdain that this popular artist has for Jesus and his power to save. Recognizing that this struggle is not directly with Jay-Z, but with "...spiritual wickedness in high places", namely Lucifer, who has transformed himself into an angel of light. This deception is aimed at scores of impressionable and well-meaning devotees of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. We love New York City and its residents. We continue to pray for the families of those that lost loved ones on 9/11 in that senseless, heinous act of terrorism. This anthem: Empire State of Mind does neither them nor their memory honor. It is our prayer that they were saved by Jesus. We believe that every believer in Jesus Christ should feel great concern for the spiritual well-being of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, but they should also cringe at these anti-Christian lyrics. LIBAW, real life in Christ has decided to respond with the following: • Call attention to the anti-Christian message of this anthem • Circulate a petition calling for this song to be removed from the "playlists" of all radio stations • Educate our audience, particularly youth, regarding the dangers of this and other songs like it that have an overt or subtle anti-Christian message • Have the anthem, Empire State of Mind repudiated by the leadership of New York City • Create a user/consumer watch list to identify dangerous content and inform concerned consumers of its existence How can you help • Please read, sign and distribute the petition • Be on the lookout for further information from LIBAW, real life in Christ Blessings, D.
