I think Jacqueline Montanez deserves another chance. It is cruel and inhuman to lock a child up for life, regardless of what she did and especially considering herself being a victim of brutality, ruining her childhood.
Life without parole for children is cruel and against basic human rights. Everyone deserves a second chance, and especially Jacqueline who has spent more than half of her life in prison and has shown tremendous growth, responsibility and remorse.

I just want to say I was locked up with her n I didn't see a devil or evil person I seen a lil girl trapped n a woman's body because her childhood innocence was taking away from her. I was abused as a young girl multiple times by a family member n I'm not saying it was a excuse for me to b the way I was as a teenager I made a lot of mistakes n choices that I'm suffering from now. All I'm saying is u get lost u have no one to help u n ur on the streets there's no love out there so u have to survive I know it still deeply hurts me the feeling she learned because she's been caged but u know the way I feel like no one is to b trusted n I have to protect myself I coulda been in her shoes it's no excuse but u just don't know the feeling for someone to do something like that to u @ a young age it's horrible no those men can't come back n God bless there families but they weren't so perfect either. that was many years ago I feel at age 15 kids are rebelling towards there parents especially when they think there in love the code street of being down for one another has played out. I belive my cousin is ready to live her life now! Many people lost love one but face it she payed for her wrong doing she was way to young to be in the streets way to young to have a gun who gave her that gun who have instructions to do so that's my question of all of this well she pulled the trigger really. As a 11 year veteran of the NYC dept of corrections. and growing up in the tough stree of Bushwick Brooklyn I have seen that prison can rehabilitate criminals 20 years is a long time . I have had childhood Friends who have committed murder and came home and our now good hard working citizens. She was only 15 at the time ladies and Gentlemen. Please find it in your heart to Give this young lady a chance at making a life for herself.

Children in the justice system need protection and a different treatment compared to adults. Especially if the "child" is in prison for so long! The Governor of Illinois and the Illinois Prisoner Review Board should act according to the UN treaty for children's rights!

I was incarcerated with Jackie at myself the age of 17. We were in Dwight together. Being that both of us were 17 (at that time only 4 of us that young) I was scared to death and did not fully understand the ramifications of my actions. Although I was not there for homicide, remembering my maturity level, I feel she was too young for that kind of sentence. I too was in gangs and I am now a hard working mother of 6. in short that woman deserves a chance to live. Free Jackie!!!!!

It says juveniles shouldn't be sentenced to life unless the juvenile commits a homicide not 1 but 2 and she planned to kill any latin king. I don't know her but we grew up around the same neighbor hood talmen Cortland, my ex use to live with with her real father, so he said zorro and her to brothers and one sister, her father talked so good about her so did her siblings, it was jus the streets and other situations that messed her life up. She deserves another chance. After the video i seen of her at court getting her resentecing I seen that she was a changed person. I did my senior project on her in 2015 and i learned so much about her. I really believe that she deserves another chance.

Jackie was a lost soul,a mere child;The street was her mother and father.Im not saying what she did was ok but she was 14 years old with the mind of a 12 year old.
I am earning a doctoral degree in a related field and find this case profoundly disturbing. More so that no one questioned or considered what the girl at the time had endured throughout her childhood. A child should never be charged as an adult___ as research supports, they do not have the mental competency to make decisions as an adult would. More over, this case as well as waiving juveniles to the adult court is embarrassing for the U.S. Illinois, without question, should reconsider this case given this was overturned in the Supreme Court after the fact. This is unacceptable and highly demoralizing.
Illinois owes children a more hopeful future than this. Especially since they failed her consistently during her childhood. Illinois needs to review this case and give a future.

I just want to say I was locked up with her n I didn't see a devil or evil person I seen a lil girl trapped n a woman's body because her childhood innocence was taking away from her. I was abused as a young girl multiple times by a family member n I'm not saying it was a excuse for me to b the way I was as a teenager I made a lot of mistakes n choices that I'm suffering from now. All I'm saying is u get lost u have no one to help u n ur on the streets there's no love out there so u have to survive I know it still deeply hurts me the feeling she learned because she's been caged but u know the way I feel like no one is to b trusted n I have to protect myself I coulda been in her shoes it's no excuse but u just don't know the feeling for someone to do something like that to u @ a young age it's horrible no those men can't come back n God bless there families but they weren't so perfect either. It was not justice, it is cruelty to a child. She deserves to be heard. She is obviously a changed woman right now.

that was many years ago I feel at age 15 kids are rebelling towards there parents especially when they think there in love the code street of being down for one another has played out. I belive my cousin is ready to live her life now! Many people lost love one but face it she payed for her wrong doing she was way to young to be in the streets way to young to have a gun who gave her that gun who have instructions to do so that's my question of all of this well she pulled the trigger really. As a 11 year veteran of the NYC dept of corrections. and growing up in the tough stree of Bushwick Brooklyn I have seen that prison can rehabilitate criminals 20 years is a long time . I have had childhood Friends who have committed murder and came home and our now good hard working citizens. She was only 15 at the time ladies and Gentlemen. Please find it in your heart to Give this young lady a chance at making a life for herself.

I was incarcerated with Jackie at myself the age of 17. We were in Dwight together. Being that both of us were 17 (at that time only 4 of us that young) I was scared to death and did not fully understand the ramifications of my actions. Although I was not there for homicide, remembering my maturity level, I feel she was too young for that kind of sentence. I too was in gangs and I am now a hard working mother of 6. in short that woman deserves a chance to live. Free Jackie!!!!!

I don't know her but we grew up around the same neighbor hood talmen Cortland, my ex use to live with with her real father, so he said zorro and her to brothers and one sister, her father talked so good about her so did her siblings, it was jus the streets and other situations that messed her life up. She deserves another chance. After the video i seen of her at court getting her resentecing I seen that she was a changed person. I did my senior project on her in 2015 and i learned so much about her. I really believe that she deserves another chance.

The monster is the person's who want her to stay behind bars as if they were the only one to loose a loved one what about all the murders walking the streets never served time what about The families who have no clue who took the life of their loved one. I am earning a doctoral degree in a related field and find this case profoundly disturbing. More so that no one questioned or considered what the girl at the time had endured throughout her childhood. A child should never be charged as an adult___ as research supports, they do not have the mental competency to make decisions as an adult would. More over, this case as well as waiving juveniles to the adult court is embarrassing for the U.S. Illinois, without question, should reconsider this case given this was overturned in the Supreme Court after the fact. This is unacceptable and highly demoralizing.
Illinois owes children a more hopeful future than this. Especially since they failed her consistently during her childhood. Illinois needs to review this case and give a future.
