For over thirty years, the roads leading to and from Arondizuogu- Okigwe and Akokwa, has been a death trap. Killing us slowly; from the environmental hazards in the air we breath to accidents, from robbery to high cost in maintaining our vehicles. This road is not only an eyesore, but also a shame to the federal government, which has over the years ignored the plights of a peaceful, progressive people rich in culture. The vibrant economic activities began by private entrepreneurs has been grounded to a halt because of this bad road. The cost associated with maintaining vehicles and transporting goods and services forced all the fifteen private owned companies to shut down. This is in addition to lack of electricity, clean pipe-borne water and access to basic health care. In the past Arondizuogu boasted of one of the best medical center in Ojike Memorial Medical Center. Safara Breweries, NIPROC Industries, Several Hotels and Motels. But today, all these employment generating businesses are no more. Accessibility to our hinter land has been hindered because successive government has paid mere lips service to maintaining and upgrading this very important road. This 73 kilometer road has seen several contractors come and go, many governments come and go, many contracts signed and paid for. Yet the road has not been fixed. We are calling on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency investigate all past and current contractors awarded contracts for this road and to ensure that they are held accountable in the spirit of the transformational agenda of this administration, so that lives can be saved by completing this very important road. Please join us in this effort to save the lives of our people who may yet suffer from respiratory problem associated with breathing polluted air, by signing this petition.
