Name: Joseph Free on Mar 30, 2007Comments: It's bull that graduation is at shirk. No one has a legit argument against it at the coliseum and this living wage thing is ridiculous. I'm happy a very few were able to get their way and cost the majority a chance to have their entire family attend graduation in person. I hope you all feel good about yourselvesFlag

Name: Aaron Largent on Mar 30, 2007Comments: It is silly to not have graduation at the Coliseum simply because they may or may not pay their workers under minimum wage. I have more than four relatives coming to graduation and if it has to be inside at the Shirk Center, only my initial family will be able to come and support me. This is ridiculous that they did not think of larger families and the trouble only four tickets would cause. Please tell your friends and sign the petition.Flag

Name: Nick Ettema on Mar 30, 2007Comments: I think graduation should be held at a location that can accommodate all members of a person's family. I am one of five children and most of my immediate family plans on attending. Those of you who protest the coliseum are doing nothing more than ruining this family oriented event for the rest of your classmates. If you are so adamant about people making a living wage then you and your parents should gladly give up everything you make in excess of a living wage. I am disgusted by those who scream about unfair wages from the comfort of their dorm room at their 39,000 dollar a year private school. If its so unfair then go to a state school and donate your saved money. I have had multiple jobs that pay less than 8 bucks an hour and know a lot of people that make low wages. Those of you who think you are advocating on their behalf probably don't even know someone like that and you surely wouldn't associate with them on a social level. The IWU bubble shields alot of you from how the world really works and its annoying to those of us with common sense.Flag

Name: Erik Schuessler on Apr 1, 2007Comments: There is no legitimate reason not to hold graduation at the Coliseum. Obviously the living wage argument is ridiculous as everyone has pointed out. They may argue that it has always been at Shirk and should continue to be, but why wouldn't we take advantage of this great new option that could accommodate all of our family members And the Coliseum is so close to campus that it practically is on campus... you could walk there if you wanted to. I would be most upset if the decision was made because of financial concerns, such as having to pay the Coliseum a down-payment even if it ended up being nice weather and we didn't use it. IWU admin, are you telling us that after dropping over $150,000 here, we are not worth the small down-payment that you'd have to put down How outrageously cheap can you beFlag

Name: Matt Nelson on Apr 1, 2007Comments: After giving students the impression that the choice would be left up to the majority of seniors, the adminstration and our representatives blatently ignored all our comments. The vast majority of students (I believe almost twice as many students on the day the information was presented to President Wilson) had expressed their desire to have graduation at the Collesium. However, this was ignored due to the outcry of a small, vocal minority. This is not fair and does not represent the interest of our class. While my immediate family will fill my 4 tickets and my grandparents would not be able to attend, I have friends who have 4 siblings, divorced parents who have remaried, and many other situations where their IMMEDIATE FAMILY is more than 4 people. The fact that we have an option that will accomodate everyone and we are not using it is a disgrace to this university and represents what happens when a few people look only to their own selfish desires and goals and ignore the reasonable objections given by the vast majority.Flag

Name: Carl DavyRomano on Apr 2, 2007Comments: The administration should have set up an official survey a long time ago asking every senior which optioned they'd prefer. That would have given them an absolutely clear cut answer that the majority wish it to be at the Collesium. Commencement should be held at the Collesium no matter what the weather. Its a great facility that needs to be utilized.Flag

Name: Ken Watson on Apr 2, 2007Comments: I agree. A select few are trying to make a needless, fruitless, dramatic stance for a 'living wage' at entirely the wrong time simply to have the opportunity to stand for something. Until these hypocrites boycott every establishment that doesn't pay their employees a 'living wage', they have absolutely no clout, and don't deserve to persuade the administration to create a hardship for the majority.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 2, 2007Comments: I support the living wage, but I still think it makes more sense to have graduation at the coliseum. To have probably 1 or 2 people at least, from every senior's family not be able to watch graduation is ridiculous. It makes no sense and I don't see why we can't subsidize the workers for the rest of the money to equal the living wage. I have a feeling I know the real reason we aren't having graduation at the coliseum and I assure you it has nothing to do with the living wage...Flag

Name: Beth Dennis on Apr 2, 2007Comments: I have family traveling from Minnesota to see me and the Coliseum is only a mile away. If it rains graduation will be interrupted anyway - literally going the extra mile for those of us with larger families isn't going to inconvenience anyone to the point that graduation should be held in Shirk for that reason. I don't know if this petition will hold any credence with the President, but I can only hope someone listens. Or - that it doesn't RAIN!Flag
