Have you ever needed a video or document from your UB course but were unable to access it because of poor Internet connectivity?  Have you ever had trouble with plug ins or other browser interfaces for online courses at UB?  iTunes-U is another way to deliver content at UB, supporting online and face-to-face courses with assets. iTunes-U is a repository connected to the iTunes music store that connects the public with over 600 universities providing free content.   Courses, events, podcasts, lectures, apps and all kinds of educational resources are available to the public and all the content is entirely free.

Currently the University at Buffalo has an iTunes U account that is only scantly used for teaching by a few professors and centers.  Every professor at UB has an account whether they are aware of it or not and each can put all of their lectures, notes, and other online resources in your iTunes U account which will automatically when you subscribe.  In this way you would not need to separately download or stream media for courses you take.  Your account would automatically populate your iPad, iPod, Windows machine, or any device which runs iTunes.   Just like any other podcast subscription, your media would arrive automatically to your device as soon as you enrolled for your courses.  

The accounts are free.  The service is free.  The storage is free.  The content is free.  UB already owns the licensing and it is simply waiting for faculty to populate it.  If you would like to have your courses use iTunes UB then please sign this petition.  It will provide evidence to our Computing and Information Technology at UB group that we need to provide support for faculty and student use.  It will simply offer an additional venue to subscribe to online content and stream and download media outside of the current available Windows Media.  If this fits your use, then this is your opportunity to make your request.
