**PLEASE DO NOT SIGN IF YOUR HAVE SIGNED THE PHYSICAL PETITION** Thank you for visiting. As you may be aware access to the small children's play area on Dochdwy Road has been restricted and the area is now in a very poor state of repair. Many residents have voiced their concerns and requested an explanation from the local council, however no satisfactory reason has been provided as yet. Our petition calls for the provision of suitable children's play facilities for our community. Our requests are as follows: 1. The play area at Llandough School is once again accessible from Dochdwy Road and the facilities and immediate surrounding area are upgraded and made safe. 2. The play area in Llandough field is fully updated and expanded to provide facilities for children of all ages. Fencing around the play area should also be provided. 3. That there is a prompt response to these requests and at least one of the measures outlined is actioned within a reasonable timescale. Provision of these facilities will have a positive impact on our community in many ways. o Residents will no longer be forced to drive to drive to parks in the surrounding area and beyond, making this an environmentally friendly project. o Local children will make friends with neighbours attending other schools. o Younger children will form friendships, making the transition from home to nursery school a smoother one. o Parents of children using the facilities will also get to know each other, creating a support network for local parents as well as building community spirit. o The surrounding areas will benefit from the aesthetic improvement. Another point to consider is how little is spent on Llandough. It is almost certain that if this was classed as a deprived area (with few tax payers) children's recreation services would be excellent. Also, if this was a high profile area or perhaps if more residents held positions of influence within the council we would have beautiful parks. In a village with very few amenities within reasonable walking distance these recreation areas will provide a much needed centre for those with young families and grandchildren. The current economic, social and environmental problems facing the nation mean that facilities of this nature have never been more crucial. Childhood obesity is one example of particularly relevant issue that can be directly addressed through the introduction of appropriate play equipment The vision statement for The Vale of Glamorgan Children and Young People's Plan 2008-11 states that the related partnership "will ensure that children and young people in the Vale are well informed and supported to access a broad range of quality services that enable them to take full advantage of the life opportunities in their local community". A suitable play park would provide this at the most basic, inclusive and cost effective level. It should also be noted that the majority of signatures on this petition were collected over a two week period to ensure that something could be handed in prior to the meeting on Thursday 23rd July. The intention is to ensure that every adult in Llandough signs and supports what will be a visible and efficient campaign. Building a positive community spirit will benefit everyone in Llandough, and will be welcomed by residents who both pay council tax and exercise their democratic right to vote.
