Comments: I respect the travellers need to work with horses .i feel its time that the goverment examined the projects that have been undertaken in other countries eg.prisoners in the states working with horses, this could be adabted to include iner city kids people with disability .It could be a very worthwhile project.

Comments: I will never understand why the State will not formally recognise Travellers as an ethnic minority. They are about as (culturally) distinct a group as any in my opinion. Just because they are Irish and Catholic; not a valid reason for opting to not formally recognise them as an ethnic minority.

Comments: Irish Travellers are a clear ethnic minority because they have a distinctive culture, history and language which is wholly unique to them. They are a race with a long history and it is shocking that at the end of 2008 that this is still an issue. Ireland must come in line with the UK on this issue as soon as is possible. Kind regards

Comments: Travellers have all the characteristics that define a distinct ethnic group. Their ethnic status should be recognised officially by the Irish Government.

Comments: I fully support this petition, knowing the wrong done to society as a whole, through suppression of the rights of and failure to recognise the ethnicity of any one section of that society. I would prefer that the preamble talk about accommodation rather than housing.

Comments: It is blatantly obvious to anyone from outside Ireland that Travellers have a distinct ethnic identity. No amount of "inter-culturalism" towards Africans and othe r so-called "new Irish" will be meaningful until the clear differences among the "old Irish" are acknowledged and treated respectfully.
