Name: Nollaig Mc Guinness on Dec 17, 2008Comments: I will never understand why the State will not formally recognise Travellers as an ethnic minority. They are about as (culturally) distinct a group as any in my opinion. Just because they are Irish and Catholic; not a valid reason for opting to not formally recognise them as an ethnic minority.Flag

Name: Richard Searle on Dec 17, 2008Comments: Irish Travellers are a clear ethnic minority because they have a distinctive culture, history and language which is wholly unique to them. They are a race with a long history and it is shocking that at the end of 2008 that this is still an issue. Ireland must come in line with the UK on this issue as soon as is possible. Kind regardsFlag

I would prefer that the preamble talk about accommodation rather than housing.Flag

No amount of "inter-culturalism" towards Africans and othe r so-called "new Irish" will be meaningful until the clear differences among the "old Irish" are acknowledged and treated respectfully.Flag
