Residents of Mastic Beach Village have come to learn that there are a number of issues within our community. First is the perceived lack of an enforcement presence in serving and protecting residents and property. We need more patrolling than what's already in place.
Another huge issue within our community are the landlords who rent the houses to people who just DO NOT CARE (including the landlord themselves) about the community. There is ONE doctor alone who owns about 50 homes in Mastic and rents them out to not very good people. There is another landlord that currently owns about 100 homes in Mastic Beach. If there were a cap as to how many homes a person can own and rent, especially a non-resident, then we would be headed in the right direction. The people that are planted here are really good people. Truly. It's a shame that they have to be subjected to so much garbage.There should be no stigma attached to this once beautiful South Shore Village hugging one of the most beautiful coastlines in these United States.
The Village of Mastic Beach has the ability to govern themselves, yes, but we need help to better us and move us towards a better living environment. We need the village, a councilperson, a legislator, someone with a voice to look into this and to help - to not only uphold the laws in place as written but to also help us pass new legislation special to these appalling situations. Before it's too late. We are all in this together and together we can make a difference.
