| 152 | Dennis Richards | My father and grandparents were born in Burry Port but lived in Llanelli. I have traced my Richards' heritage back to 1750 when my ancestors lived in the surrounding farming area of Llanarthney. The "industrial revolution" saw most of the Richards' families move into Llanelli to take up roles in the emerging metal and resource industries. I have since traced 460 of my ancestors to Llanelli and surrounds.
I have now visited Llanelli 3 times in recent years. I want to see what my ancestors saw, "feel" the environment in which they lived and get an appreciation of my Welsh heritage. I see great change underway (eg. the coastal area) but I am terrified that the township is fast becoming a sterile building allotment with fewer and fewer buildings representing the past eras.
I strongly urge you to reconsider demolishing The Island House and indeed any of your historic buildings. In fact, I urge the opposite: refurbish and renovate these old buildings (the end of Stepney St and Park St might be a start)
Family history and heritage is perhaps the fastest growing hobby and pastime in the world. People like me from all over the world are increasingly visitors of places like Llanelli. We seek a "taste" of our heritage (and in so doing spend money in your townships). Please reconsider, or why else would we visit again.

| 154 | DAVID HOWELLS | This historic pub should not be demolished. Llanelli seems to have an obsession with destroying it's heritage. |
| 155 | Lee Thorley | Although I have only ever ventured into the Island House the once (due to being not much of drinker) I firmly believe that although modernisation needs to take place for the future of the town but that some things also need to stay for the future of the town. That pub is part of Llanelli because it is dear to so many peoples hearts who are feom Llanelli. I have just recently seen my old primary/junior school knocked down for modernisation (Bryn) and with it part of my history went.. part of my background.. part of me. Sounds daft but it was upsetting..
So The Island House has my full backing.. Its part of Llanelli.. DONT GET RID OF IT! |

| 158 | STUART KENYON | this pub has stood at its site for 200 years and is a local landmark that should be saved for future generations. |
| 159 | Alan James | We do not eed more Llanelli landmarks replaced with bland warehouse type buildings only open during shopping hours |

| 161 | Hilary Payne | The Island House is very much a part of Llanelli's History and many of the old characters of Llanelli drank and socialised there and it should be very much of the ongoing Llanelli Scene as we need buildings of character as well as bland shops. We need to preserve Llanelli's character and history as wll as building new buildings and modernising the ara. |

| 164 | Anonymous | i wouldnt call the island house a regular haunt of mine but i have called there from time to time & find it a nice little pub. it would be a shame to close it all together |
| 165 | Anonymous | Please preserve local heriatage |
| 166 | Tracy Eynon | Please consider keeping this building as it would be a great link with the past and could easily be included in any shopping developments! |
| 167 | martin daly | Leave this jewel in Llanalli's crown alone please. We live on an island, let us be proud of this. |

| 172 | Rich James | The Island House is a very friendly, old pub, thats been part of the town for years and would be a terrible shame to see it close |
| 173 | Anonymous | I do not see why island house should be demolished because it would get in the way of a car park. It is already in the middle of a car park and would make little difference to the project. Apart from taking away maybe eight of the most undesirable spaces, as they are furthest from the development. |
| 174 | Ann Dymock | why get rid of such a beautiful building. WE need to have the old with the new to add character to what is fast becoming a characterless town. we need continuity and keep llanelli's identity. |

| 179 | lee griffiths | Dont remove this pub!! Historic and Iconic |
| 180 | Anonymous | This is a lovely pub and destroying it will have a devistating effect on the community |

| 182 | Mark Evans | Very happy to support the petition against poor and unsympathetic planning by the council |
| 183 | Anonymous | Will the council leave any of the past for the future?? |
| 184 | Carole Ann Smith | The past should be present as part of our heritage . It shapes the character of a place. |

| 186 | Dave Colton | The pub gives the town centre character..Demolishing it will just add to the woes and prove even more that Llanelli Town Centre is dead. |

| 192 | Andrew Deathe | A shocking idea, when the pub is one of the few historic buildings left in the town centre and can so easily be accomodated within the development. Take a look at the Galleries shopping centre in Bristol and see how that accomodated and used the 18th century Lloyds Bank building to enhance the scheme, rather than bulldozing it. |
| 193 | Anthony David | The council wants to knock this pub down to build new shops. This sounds dull as they have a job to fill the other shops in the high st so why do we need more shops?? All a bit dull to me. Save the Island House!!! |

| 196 | sharon Meek | I was born in Llanelli and my ancestry goes back to the begining of the island house, due to my husband being in the army we haved lived in many countries, each time I go home over the past 25 years another piece of our past has been knocked down! It is a disgrace that our heritage means so little to the council of llanelli and carmarthen, where other towns and cities care for there historical buildings llanelli seems to be doing just the opposite. you only have to look at photos of llanelli in the 1800's, 1900's and compare them to llanelli now to see what a mess is being made of our town, in the want of a better word to keep up with jones. llanelli is a dieing town made up now of supermarkets and industrial shopping. Its a shame that our ancesters went to so much blood sweat and tears simply for some man in a suit to sign a paper to knock down buildings that had so much thought and care put into them, unlike todays buildings which are made of wood., blocks and no thought |
| 197 | stephen bowen | |
| 198 | S Jones | Demolishing the Island House is a mad idea.
We need to retain as much of our heritage as possible, especially as so much has been demolished already.
It is quite obvious that this Council is like all the others that have gone before - they don't really care about our town centre, but just want to make names for themselves through so-called regeneration projects.
However, real regeneration needs thought and commitment and starts with re-using the buildings you've already got, and keeping some local character and identity.
Regeneration is not about demolition. |
| 199 | mrs p simmonite | it is about time the people of llanelli stood up against these vandals that have brought this town to its knee,s . if JIM GRIFFITHS came back and saw whats left of llanelli it would break his heart and he would want to know who encouraged a new town called trostre to be built .So come on every one standup and stop these vandals. |
