Philip Warlow | Stop the council from flattening our old buildings.
Gareth Cole | Stop the closure of The Island House
Vaughan Jones | Regeneration doesn't have to mean demolition - the Island House has always been part of Llanelli's Eastern Gateway and should be included in the new development
Ian holmes | Our heritage is who we are, Is that not wreath saving.
Stuart Mackinnon | Guaranteed this building will be replaced by an eyesore that will last about 30 years. Soon, Britain will be one vast facelass shopping precinct catering solely to teh consumer and no concern with the cultural history of our environment. Good luck!
John Jones | It is sheer lunacy to even consider bulldozing such a splendid building and to further annihiliate Llanelli's heritage. The Island House should be retained at all cost. Wake up Carmarthenshire Council!
johnjenkins | typical of llanelli/carmarthenshire council to do what they want and ruin the history of the town
hywel davies | i spent MANY MANY happy hours at the pub when i lived nearby and enjoyed the unique atmosphere provided by the local characters who would call there. to lose such an institution would be a travesty and whoever is responsible for such a decision obviuosly has no sense of community or tradition values at all.
Mark Neil | We must keep our older buildings that are still left in town, otherwise we will lose what character is left of old Llanelli to the developers. The town is becoming full of "Plastic Pubs", with no character.
Therese James | Another example of the lack of imagination in planning respect for communities feelings.
john osborne | typical of the council -knock it down like the york hotel and build a mess
rosemarie osborne |
amanda osborne |
gregory osborne |
Helen Cole | Why can't this historic building be incorporated into plans for park street. Just another example of our heritage being destroyed, what will be left for future generations
Diane Hopkins | We have already lost so much of the character of Llanelli. It will soon become a faceless town with no individuality. Surely a beautiful building reflecting the social history of the town for many generations could be incorporated into the new town plans. Where's the harm in that?
Anonymous | it is disgraceful getting rid of these old buildings we dont all want to drink standing up in bars where you can drink yourself sill for £8
| 18 | Anonymous | global capitalism and the greed from developers whose only concern is to maximise proffit for shareholders together with corporate, cloned, comforming, bland minimilist architechtural designs are effectivly nuterring Llanelli as an individual town ,together with denying its inhabitants any continuity of link with its colourful and uniquly individual industrial, social, and cultural past. The harbour flats area appear to resemble an East Europian gheto. In front of the nearly lost Buckley Brewery someone has granted planning to a tacky shed to sell pitzas.
Yes change has to happen and in 50 years I ve seen unbeleavable change ,Llanelli is no longer the vibrant town I remmember growing up in . Now it is so tacky with lack of individuality in new acrhitecture and through the wanton destructure of its pasts asthetically pleasing individuality in favour of the functional bland simplicity of bloody sheds.Island House is a landmark in the town, not simply a public house, I would fill sheets if I were to include the names of the public houses lost.Weve lost a great deal in Llanelli . The current social order forces on its inhabitants bland, impersonal , souless, concrete conformity. Continuity and individuality must be obliterated at all costs for fear that it somehow empowers us to question, challenge, or object. |

MEINIR LEYSHON | WHY DOES LLANELLI COUNCIL THINK THAT PEOPLE WILL ONLY COME TO LLANELLI IF EVERYTHING IS NEW. THERE IS MUCH MORE INTEREST IN AN OLD PUB THAN A NEW FAST FOOD OUTLET. ALSO DO WE NEED ANY MORE RETAIL OUTLETS? THERE ARE SHOPS CLOSING DOWN IN THE CENTRE, LET US FILL THOSE FIRST.
Anonymous | i dont agree with it
| 22 | JOHN PUGH | we to retain the past history and character of
llanelly before we demolish what little is left !!!! |
John Cole |
| 24 | A.Wolff | Why are so many historic landmarks in Llanelli
to be demolished , whereas in Carmarthen , old buildings are being kept and restored ???? |
IRIS HUGHES | GOOD LUCK WITH THIS CAMPAIGN. IT IS HIGH TIME THAT CARMARTHENSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL STOPS WAGING THIS WAR OF DESTRUCTION ON OUR TOWN OR THERE WILL BE NOTHING LEFT OF OUR HERITAGE.
| 26 | Peter Jones | To demolish this landmak purely for additional car parking spaces can not be justified especialy when there is a fully unused multi storey car park above the former Tesco Building less than 100 yards away.
This is a working and viable business in a depressed objective one funded area. To lose an independat busines such as this is simply criminal and cannot be justified. |
ADRIAN HUGHES | THANKS FOR YOUR EFFORTS. GOOD LUCK WITH THE CAMPAIGN.
John B Cook | This is an attractive public house that should be incorporated into the "attractive" gateway to Llanelli. There are not many pubs left in Llanelli with a genuine local atmosphere and the Island House deserves re-consideration.
D Jones | This is a local landmark and as such should be preserved.

Mrs. W. J. Lewis | There is no justifiable reason for take down The Island House. It would be one of the only relicts of the past still to remain in Llanelli and would make a wonderful contribution to the aesthetics of the development in Llanelli. To avoid becoming a clone of every other so called modernisation of a town, it is important that we retain our own identity. Llanelli had a rich history which has disappeared without trace and therefore it is essential that whatever links we have with the past are retained. The Island House has character and a history which new buildings cannot have, it must be retained where it is.
D.R.Lewis | This is yet another decision taken by the council, which is going to leave Llanelli as a sterile blob on the map of culture. This once proud and thriving town has been stripped of an feature which would be of interest to visitors, giving us no advantage over any other grey and amorphous collection of buildings. It is essential that, as with the 'Island House, buildings of character must be retained!!

Andy Withers | What a shame it would be if Llanelli lost this lovely old building. Can it not be integrated into the new scheme of things?

Julie Withers |
bob nickson | please keep this landmark public place open.
Sarah Rees | I think this is awful, How can they justify demolishing this beautiful building for yet more shops?

Cath Jones |
Glyn Jones | I first visited the Island House in 1965, and was a regular customer until I moved from Lanelli in 1969, I have visited there often on my frequent visits to Llanelli over the years and hope to do so for many more years.
denver davies | save my local!!!!!!!!!!!!
alison herbert-davies | I love the Island and it should stay
Stuart Davies |
sheila davies | you must keep the island house open
