PETITION

TO THE HONOURABLE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY OF THE PROVINCE OF NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR IN PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLED

The Petition of the undersigned

HUMBLY SHEWETH

WHEREAS the decision of the Joe Batt’s Arm Council to accept amalgamation without proper voting, is undemocratic in accordance with the laws of our society and Canada;

WHEREAS the decision to amalgamate should be a fair, transparent and proper process with due attention to the rights of all residents;

WHEREAS the meeting on amalgamation at the Joe Batt’s Arm town hall in November was biased by parties moderating the meeting, therefore, the meeting should be void;

Whereupon the undersigned, your Petitioners, humbly pray and call upon the House of Assembly to

·       Officially suspend the decision to amalgamate Fogo Island until the provincial government can carry out a democratic vote on the issue of amalgamation for the residents of Fogo Island;

·       To ensure a full and transparent process is carried out to eliminate any unfair processes and undue negativity towards it;

·       Officially recognize that all residents of Fogo Island should be offered an opportunity to vote for against amalgamation, not just communities voting independently.

And as in duty bound your Petitioners will ever pray.
