Dr Joan Lalor | Choice in childbirth is a principle of paramount importanct to women, their families and midwives and it should be supported without reservation.

| 1004 | kelli | Ireland needs midwives and midwives need the support of Ireland and all facilities that provide any governance of the health of the PEOPLE. Include midwives on the states liability insurance package.

Janelle Lucido | I totally support home birth and independent midwives because they serve women in a way that insitutions cannot.

Sarah Leonard | We always seem to be 10 years behind everywhere else. While other countries are recognising the importance of support for women who wish to have home births we're still working on stamping it out, while at the same time closing maternity wards across the country. Stupidity. It's no wonder we're the butt of jokes.

Helen Kavanagh | I have had two babies at home in Ireland and am hoping to have a third in July this year. This is a birth choice that needs to be expanded in Ireland not threatened by insurance issues.
D Liu | *Disclaimer - I don't live in Ireland, but a friend who does is affected by this matter, and I feel strongly that she and other mothers-to-be should have the option of homebirth with an Independent Midwife should she wish it.

Anonymous | This is a proper disgrace. Women should have options and should be allowed the option of having a midwife and having a baby at home.

Feidhlim Harty | We had two homebirths and experienced wonderful assistance from the hospital nurses and from our magnificant midwifes throughout the whole process of my wife's pregancies and the births. I would recommend home births to anyone who felt so inclined, and would like to see the service available on a more widespread basis so that everyone in the country could avail of it. It is a truly wonderful time in life and facilitated by wonderful people.
marie longworth | I support Independent Midwives and they should be insured by the INO.
Maria Scholte Lubberink | Homebirth is a very important option for parents. Hospitals are already overcrowded, why burden them with extra deliveries of 'safe' women who can deliver just as well at home. I had 2 of my 3 babies delivered at home by a very competent and wonderful woman. The experience I had can not be replicated in hospital. Please allow other women to have similar experiences, which are priceless. Also, there are no superbugs at home! Please!
