Ireland is a country steeped in tradition, culture and life. Despite this however, it’s torn in two. A divide that does not belong. North and South have been separated for too long. Six counties out of thirty-two have been Westminster’s puppets for a lifetime. This has confused us people who live in Ireland. We did not know who to blame for being spilt up, so we turned on each other, as it was all we could do. Christians began to murder each other. Catholics and Protestants destroying families and lives. I am a Catholic, and for too long I have watched Catholics murder innocent Protestants, and Protestants murder innocent Catholics. It has gotten out of control, to the point where we do not know why we are fighting, the only apparent reason being different labels. We are all Irish, however. We need to wake up, and start to comprehend the devastation we have caused, and start to be Irish again. The fight is not against each other. Our energy needs to be channelled into something productive - reuniting our beautiful country to its original state. Before we can do that though, a hurdle needs to be crossed. The rivalry between Catholics and Protestants needs to be extinguished, before our future, our children’s future and our country's future can benefit. In the late thirties and early forties, there was a war between Britain, America and the Nazis. It just so happened that the Nazis were German. This, however did not mean all Germans were Nazis, far from it. Likewise, the ‘men’ in Westminster who felt it was correct to invade our country, were mainly Protestant. This did not mean though all Protestants supported what was happening to our country. Control has now changed in Westminster, and the people there at the minute are not responsible for what happened to Ireland. They can make a difference now, though. This petition is not for any particular religion, ethnic origin, nationality or political background to sign: it is for everyone. You can be American, Indian, English, Irish, British, Australian, Dutch, Protestant, Catholic, Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish, atheist, Communist, you could support, the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, SDLP, Sinn Fein, Unionist, Labour, Scottish National Party, Democrats (USA), Republicans (USA), China Democratic League, Christian Democratic Union of Germany, Social Democratic Party of Germany, Pheu Thai Party, People’s Power Party (Thai), United Future (New Zealand), Green Party, ANYONE! The point is, it does not matter who you are, where you are, what you are, or what you believe in. All that matters is, if you think you support Ireland being one country without a divide, sign the petition and show your support. The aim of this petition is to get as many signatures as possible, and bring the data to the three important establishments - Westminster, The Dáil, and Stormont. With the right amount of signatures, the appropriate bodies will realise it is in the interests of the population of multiple countries, of multiple religions, and multiple ethnic origins for Ireland to be one country without an ugly border of unwanted division. I believe in order to achieve unity, we must first achieve harmony, and not a step to harmony, but a leap would be to accomplish a goal - a goal of gathering thousands of signatures of right-minded people who can change a country, and change the way in which a world thinks. Sixty seconds of your life, could change a country, a population, and a world - all for something better.
