Apple has completely changed the way that information, entertainment and communication can be obtained while mobile. The iPhone and iPod Touch have been at the forefront of technology for over two years now, setting trends and standards that other mobile device manufacturers and service providers are scrambling to duplicate. Unfortunately, there are several features missing from the iPhone in the United States. One of the biggest and most requested features that has not yet been made available is that of Flash video. On Monday October 5th, 2009, Adobe announced that Flash 10.1 will be available for mobile devices through their OpenScreenProject. Mobile devices including Google Android phones, RIM Blackberry, Microsoft Windows Mobile and Symbian based OS's will soon begin to support Flash Video. Glaringly absent from this list is the Apple branded iPhone and iPod Touch. I, as the writer of this petition, do understand that there are many legal and corporate hurdles that need to be overcome in order for any far reaching goal to be achieved. Having said that, I also understand that there is no better way to hand over the leaders position than to allow for a competing platform to encroach on your market share. What many people perceive as a "closed platform" capable of doing nearly everything will quickly become antiquated in comparison to the next Nokia freebie phone that is streaming Hulu. Apple, please begin to fully support Flash on the iPhone and iPod Touch by participating in the OpenScreenProject. We, as your loyal community, are asking nicely.
